First, I would like to thank Jim and the RED team for providing me with the tools that allowed me to create 4K motion content. As someone coming from the stills side of things, the Scarlet X and Redcine X allowed me to transition to motion and create a nice short (The Haiku) with ease. The raw workflow is awesome. And I would like to thank Michael Cioni for hosting the 4K competition. This allowed me to use my Scarlet to shoot a 4k project, edit that project in 4k, master the project in 4k, and exhibit the project in 4K. This is big and something everone should be striving to do. Thank you again for this opportunity.

Being at NAB means seeing all of the new stuff and it means networking. I met so many people. I met REDusers like Joseph Hutson, Phil Holland and Mark Toia. Unbelievably cool. I also met many of the RED team. People like Graeme, Rob, Ted, Jarred, and of course Jim. I was also fortunate to meet my Bomb Squad rep James Lucarelli, he was great in helping me get through the wait for my Scarlet and supporting gear. Of course, with the improvements in manufacturing at RED, future generations of RED users will not know what it was like to have to go through the agonizing wait for their gear.

This has been such an intense experience. Thank you RED!

It was great to meet you and see your short Webster! You had a glimmer in your eye when you saw it pop up on that quad-monitor at the beginning of the party. Very nice work!

Webster... it was great to meet you today. I was particularly impressed with your 1st attempt to go end to end 4K on this contest. I hope to see more from you.

Jim

Webster, if you are around tomorrow, id love to meet you at the RED Booth!

Is it possible to see your short online Webster?

I'm also so grateful to Jim, RED and Light Iron for the competition. This was my first time grading in Redcine X. First time using Premiere. First time editing in 4K and first time exporting a DPX. What a learning curve. My soundman and I made a lot of mistakes encoding files, but in the end we got it right ;) We hoped.... I'm so glad that Michael Cioni and RED pushed me out of the HD comfort zone with the competition. And then to see it in 4K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow....... I'm new to RED as of last October. Bought an R1. But, there's nothing like it anywhere I've learned. I've never cared so much about a camera, as I do RED. It was an awesome opportunity to be a part of the competition. Great entries, people and education. Thanks everyone!

Here's a link to it.

Talked to Ted and to Michael Cioni and have the go ahead to post my 4K portrait competition entry online.

I have put my 4K competition on my website, the link is below. Of course it is not 4K, and let me tell you there is nothing like seeing your work in 4K on a 154 inch plasma display. Let me know what you think. (watch it to the end)

Rob some of those shots where over the top stunning i could watch all day well done... The sound track gave it an eerie Kubrick vibe very cool :)

Thanks so much Evan! Glad you liked it. You're exactly right. :) Redcine X pushed all the colors to the limits. All shot in full overhead sun for the most part. Redcine X is amazing!

Thanks Evan. The goal was to complete a 4K project. The disk drive made it to LightIron hours before the deadline.

The thing is, the Scarlet is easy to use and Redcine X is a joy to work in. The only issue really was creating a 4K master using my inadequate 2008 mac pro.

It was great meeting you Webster at NAB and I was honored to be the first guy to congratulate you when we saw your entry had made the top ten.

During the presentation, when Mr. Jannard asked the name of 'the kid' who had made the top ten with his first "motion" project, I nearly shouted out your name.

Well, I think you've got a great nickname now - THE KID :-)

Best,

Jacques

PS Did you get 'your' poster to take home?

Jacques, it was my pleasure in meeting you at the Red User party. Talk about a shout out, having Jim Jannard talk about my project to such an illustrious group still has me wondering if I am dreaming (if so, don't wake me).

Hope you get that Scarlet soon.

Webster

(no I did not get the poster)
