The open question remains the plans of Red Digital Cinema. On the show floor? Or other venue?

Last year I effectively used the monorail to get to the RED event. If not on the show floor, I would hope that RED is able to book a venue that suits them and offers options for access. Taxis are great but not always easy to hire at busy times, particularly after 4pm at the LVCC during the show.

EDIT: ...but they WILL be there!

If coming to NAB 2011 and visiting the RED booth in the South Hall to see EPICs, Scarlets, and REDray playing the new reel aren't enough... the surprise certainly is worth the trip.

Our booth will be SL6320. If you are anywhere near Las Vegas and don't stop by, you are... well.

I just got a tip from Bloom about the MGM Signature, which has suites with open-air balconies overlooking the strip, so I booked one of those Apr 11-15.

the Signature is also closer to the lower priced food court (McDonalds, Pizza...)
The 20.00 daily resort fee sucks if you don't plan on using the facilities.

I noticed the Tropicana has added a 9.99 a day resort fee also.

I may take up the offer to check out the Luxor or Excalibur.

The signature looks interesting, I thought they were supposed to have a non-smoking casino section now? $20/daily for resort fees isn't so great. Sign of the times though, seems to be just one more fee they can tack onto the bill. The last several places I've traveled to and places I've stayed have had fees like that. Many of them go out of their way to not mention such fees or even hide them up front.

In Vegas, I like the Rio. It's fairly nice, but off the strip so you have to take their shuttles and do some more walking. For on the strip, I've had good luck with NYNY, the Venetian and the MGM. The Luxor and Monte Carlo were alright too, but I wasn't that impressed with the rooms, even for being cheaper at the time. The Tropicana last year was a total shit-hole. Worst room ever. Under construction, had to walk to the MGM just to catch a cab or airport shuttle since none of the cabbies were driving through the mess at the Trop. Excalibur is always a pit too.

I haven't checked rooms and whatnot yet. I'll start with NYNY and MGM. Maybe I'll try something closer to the convention center this year... I don't touch video / slot machines. Will play blackjack and craps. I'm really a poker guy, but it seems harder to get into any decent poker in Vegas since the recent surge in popularity and I probably wont' have time to get into that over my 2 or 3 day NAB trip.

...I'm pretty sure I'm going, already have registered with my alumni code. Only two reasons I'll miss NAB this year -- 1> I already have an EPIC-X. 2> I'm dead.

I'm cheap so I stay at the Tuscany Suites for about $60 a night. Close enough to the strip to walk or you can catch the tram from Bally's a block away to the convention center. I drive up there, so I have my car and just drive to the convention and I also use Koval lane which runs behind many of the hotels, so I park at PH and look for fun from there. I just got back from Vegas a few week ago. We stayed at the Mandelay in their 1500 sqft suite on the top floor - bar, two rooms, jacuzzi tub, flat screen tv's all over - for $100 a night! Cool. Just bring someone in a wheelchair and ask for a handicap room. My son broke his leg playing soccer the week before. Haha.
