(...) like when we first announced the RED ONE and everyone here (DVXUSER) said we were a scam... :-)
Not me. Same day, I had placed my reservation. Actually, more than one.

E. :-)

yes, thats right, the RED Mattebox. Maybe this would not be considered one of the three MAJOR announcements, but I hope to see a prototype.

If we need protection, I hope they announce "tex" is shipping too.

Looking forward to meeting you Jim, you prefer Montecristos or Cohebas? :) (Wife is from Cuba)

you lucky bastard!! I have only had the pleasure of a real cuban cigar
once or twice and it was awesome!!!!

i "know" :) how to resolve the mistery before (well, more or less just a few hours before) NAB starts!

- someone needs to go to red's HQ and install hidden and remotelly controlled (red?) camera with HUGE and powerfull X-ray "wall-thru" system on the lens and record everything what is going on inside red's HQ - during preparing and packaging for NAB.

simple.

Well 4k displays and projectors would be a logical follow on to complete the capture to display cycle.

I'll be in Edmonton that week doing a greenscreen shoot with Leslie Nielson and Red 214 for part of a new series so NAB is out for me this year.

Coverage of RED at NAB

Coverage of RED at NAB

I will be covering RED at NAB (video coverage plus written journalism) for Scribemedia.org. Posts will be available the next day. We are there to cover this event/phenomenon/alien mothership landing as best we can and to cover the other neat stuff. Personally, I plan to pester the RED team with our coverage - and then it goes out over to our partners for syndication.

Let the RED tide roll... I absolutely cannot wait to push this footage out! I was working the B&H booth in 2006 when the RED tent showed up on everyone's radar - had to wait a whole day to get over there - and I wished right then and there that I had the money at the moment to put my reservation down - Oh, what a painful memory...

I am absolutely sure that ARRI, AATON, SONY, Panasonic, et al. are going to be coming by the booth ... with ninjas. And angry midgets with dynamite. Andcrazed rabid squirrels in sacks to toss into the booth. And hot slinky dominatrices walking AWAY from the RED booth soaked in aux d' come hither perfume... and if that doesn't work, they'll just get Charles Manson out on furlough with some PCP and a chainsaw.

On second thought - they will do none of the above. Because that takes imagination and an ability to dream big, hunker down and get the work done, and set your sites on doing something the way people really want it done.

Hats off to you, Jim and all of your RED crew! Can't wait to tell the story!

For this much hype it could only be one thing...

REDphone... 3G, wifi, 4k onboard camera (still and video), 4k display (microscope to red web pages not included) 1TB flash storage, etc... :)

My Guess:

1. Someone is Pregnant (or 4K projection/display technology)
2. Someone is Gay (Or Scarlet has a major twist)
3. Someone is someone elses father (or there's some hardware involving codec acceleration for post and/or standalone playback for post/presentation)

Hmmm, just got this info in... Related (to my prediction #3 above)? Coincidence? Hmmmm.... Guess we'll find out at NAB.

The REDBOX Personal Parallel Processing Unit is powered by 32 high performance floating-point processors in a water-cooled state-of-the-art single 2RU enclosure. And if that’s not enough you can expand the system up to 128 per host.

Connect to a REDBOX and you’ll find it’s like having your own personal render farm. This expandable parallel processor dramatically accelerates the performance of your single-host workstation to reduce time spent on render intensive jobs—so you can do more projects—or finish early and get back to living your life…with a few extra dollars in your pocket either way.

Take control with REDBOX

Finish more projects in the same time.

Without compromising quality, REDBOX increases the productivity of your existing workstation by a factor of 8 so you can meet deadlines without hiring additional artists or purchasing additional workstations.

Cut down on costly Energy expenses.

With REDBOX even though your output factor is 8-times greater, you will see only a minimal increase in power consumption to run your improved system—and since it now needs to run for less time, you can look for a decrease in your Energy bill!

NAB Redbooth has got to tie into the 3d world big time

As I said before:

RED (finally) assimilates SCRATCH.

After the NAB RED will offer a free SCRATCH app with every RED or Scarlet sold.

Then you could ask for REDBOX, "a very fast parallel processing unit ideal for, but not dedicated to, Post, VFX and compression / decompression."

Also I forgot a kiss from Scarlett Johansson at the RED booth if you are a nice REDUSER.

This could be an ideal or a dream NAB for an average REDUSER.

But what will be a real NAB we have to wait and see.

O.K., S.two have announced on Studio Daily some new gear for
Arri D20, Dalsa and surprise surprise, Red. This is recording gear for
Raw Bayer Pattern cameras.
So, some sort of RAW output would be needed on RED.
Could this be one of the big things for NAB 08 Mr Jim J.?
Have I cracked #1,2 or 3.
Do I get a free Scarlet?
