BEFORE YOU POST:

This thread is NOT for discussing "why" or "why not" somebody else's guess would be right or wrong. It is simply for you to explain your GUESS and WHY you have this guess. That way the thread keeps clean. Thanks.

Whoever gets it closest, come NAB, wins bragging rights...

MY GUESS:

RED Ray Pro with "4K3D" abilities as well as 4K3D Projection within the large tent.

Why?

RED will already have the eye of virtually everyone due to EPIC/Scarlet. But why stop there? From the looks of it, RED had the opportunity to release a fully operational RED Ray Unit last FEBRUARY of 2010. Then, they showed it in full force at their RED Day Event at the Tropicana Hotel. Or did they?

RED has been very quiet about the development of what some foresee to be the most important products that one could bring to the 4K distribution markets (RED Ray). In the last 2 years, we have seen the obvious fact that 3D is making substantial headway in the Cinema. Perhaps this additional year of waiting has enabled them to bring about this RED RAY 3D Product...it would definitely be a show stopper on top of what EPIC and SCARLET are bringing to the table.

I've said it once before "I'd rather pay a premium for 4K before 3D", but what about 4K + 3D. It'd be a force to reckon with, and it may be closer than some of you think...

I may be over-estimating RED. But they've never given me reason to under-estimate them...

Good one Joseph. So cool that Red Ray Pro is supposed to start shipping at around NAB too!

My guess is still just some prototypes of the Red Electronic FF35 lenses. Only because that is what is next on my list to purchase after my Epic-X and Epic-S.

My guess would be similar to Josephs, but soley a 4K projector with or without 3D capabilities / 4K Monitor.

Why? It seems RED has the acquisition all sown up, RED Ray is there for distribution, so in order to get the RED RAY out there in numbers, there would need to be an affordable way to demo, grade, view and show all the great footage that EPIC will be producing.

a short clip from the monstro sensor:-D

it's the only surprise that will really knock everyone's socks off and then some:-)

The future is REDCODE to the masses

that means to make a camera for $1000 bucks

with the best IQ possible (no line skipping, aliasing, moire, etc...).

Sensor size of S35mm (max 2K DI) and interchangeable mount (PL, PV, Canon EOS electronic, Nikon F electronic, Leica M, Leica S2 electronic, etc...).

The files (footage) can be equally shawn and distributed from upcoming iPad HD (HD tablets),

web, HD plasmas (home theater ) to the digital cinema theater (2K).

Again to repeat with a such lightweight camera device (combination of magnesium alloy body and plastic) that costs just $1000 bucks.

That is how you can make the future and also get leadership in the industry.

RED has this technology (REDCODE, MX sensor, lightweight camera body), it's just about a decision to do the right thing and to finally finished the concept in right way.

And after that maybe later you can try out to sell to the masses 4K+3D, etc,...

Announcement of the BAZOOKA sensor, featuring not only R, G and B color channels, but also depth/distance.

Why? Would be awesome for VFX, would revolutionize greenscreening. Would've been a pity to have given away that RED ONE for nothin'.

I'm betting on something to do with Monstro. Perhaps a prototype of the 6x4.5. But then, knowing how this company operates, perhaps a prototype of the 6x17! Whoooooo!

Im thinking it will be something about the monstro sensor or even announcements about the ff35 and 617

Right now best thing it's just about to do opposite:

Not now do a bigger thing (aka Monstro), no enlargement, etc, at the moment,...maybe later,...

Give them (hungry masses) the best lightweight HD camera (so called a professional camera) just for $1000 bucks.

When you spread REDCODE to the masses of millions (it's like a virus) than later is easy to do whatever you want 4K, 5K , 6K, 3D, 4D, +++...

And don't forget that a wider spread of the REDCODE (codec) is a key player in this game!!!

My hope would actually be an additional cheaper Red Ray Player for those of us who don't need all the bells and whistles of Joseph's suggestion.

Why: Imagine a cheap Red Ray player that's backwards compatible with BluRay and DVD in every cinema loving consumer, which is incidentally also useful for Red owners with limited bank accounts!

thousands of scarlets and epics ready for on site NAB pickup, at a discounted NAB price :)

OK. I'll bite based on nothing. Here is what I think the roadmap is:

EPIC S35 UNLEASHED at NAB and announcements made about more "famous people" using it (which is great for everyone)

FIXED LENS SCARLET VERY shortly after EPIC (like a month or so) 3K max resolution, fixed lens does not compete with R1MX.

S35 SCARLET EOL replace by EPIC LIGHT (has already happened) whips AFTER EPIC orders are complete.

NEW R1-MX will be EOL remianing will be sold off in the 22K range from RED STORE.

STAGE 3 R1's will be MX'd and refurbed to be sold as BATTLE TESTED, then EOL.

EPIC "LIGHT" replaces R1 MX in Store as FUTURE OF RED emerges, with same featuer set as R1 MX but handcuffed compared to EPIC.

FF EPIC ANNOUNCED FOR UPGRAGES EARLY in 2012 to replace the S35 sensor line in EXISTING EPICS.

BY FEB 14th, RED will contact first 400 EPIC CUSTOMERS to receive shipment in 30 days.

RED STUDIOS announces some major films being shot on site in Hollywood including one by JJ himself.

and my last preditions:

Someone slaps me upside the head for being so wrong! LOL :)
