After we voted in the Slider group buy thread on which offer to take, I'll post here all the details about the MYT Glide group buy.

Julia and Etienne from MYT Works will also post here to answer all your questions.

If you haven't got the password yet for the offer on my blog, send me a pm.

Deadline for the group buy will be on Monday, August the 26th 11am EDT.

Here are the information from my blog, until I can post all the details about the purchase.

For orders of 20 of more, they could start shipping within 15 business days and should be finished within six weeks.

They are working on a motor upgrade for their sliders, but asked me not to share the information until they are nearly finished. The price sounded very "reasonable" (definitively affordable for anyone considering to purchase a MYT slider).

Orders and shipment would be individual. First of all, nobody would have to take care of sending out the sliders or of all the money.

Also, individual packages are possible, so that everyone can decide which package they want.

Update #1

The group buy will start probably tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

New deadline is on Monday, August the 26th.

Roughly, I think this is how it will work:

Everyone creates an account on the MYT online store

You send me the name under which you registered at their store. I'll send the list of names to MYT

Julia from MYT adds us RedUsers to a special group (you will only see discounted pricing once she has placed you in the group)

MYT will use the assumed quantity bracket of 25-30 orders [see blog for the discount percentage], but we only need to reach 20 orders!

RedUsers browse, viewing discounted pricing on available items

We purchase online with the discounted pricing, and hopefully we reach the 20 orders.

If not enough orders come in, the money will be refunded. If more orders come in, we either get money back or a discount for the next purchase. Will ask MYT again about it.

Given how many messages I got in the lat days, I'm pretty confident that we reach at least 20 orders, probably even more than 25!

MYT and I decided to postpone the deadline for one week, since many people contacted me in the last days and today.

So the new deadline is August 26 11am EDT!
 
Looking forward to adding an MYT slider to all the equipment I like to complain about loading into the equipment van :smilewinkgrin:
 
I took a good look at these at NAB 2013.

A few things I like.

- Sturdy
- Flexible system to adjust height easily
- The carriage has somewhat comfortable operating grip areas
- Quick release carriage is nice

They perform nicely with a bit of weight on them. The bearings have a smooth feeling with a bit of drag from that delrin sleave.

In a quick conversation with a couple folks at the booth I suggested a design for the removable carriage to be incorporated into a sort of hi-hat that could double as a table top dolly. (in addition to the linear skater dolly) Hope they do that one day. The system is sort of built for that level of flexibility.

With a couple of products available out there today it wouldn't be too difficult to motorize the move either.

I love my MYT Works Slider... On set and wanted to ask a quick question, is there a hard case available yet for their 4ft slider yet? I ask because I have a prepro trip to Brazil coming after next week and I need a hard case for travel asap. Thank you guys in advance and for those of you who buy into the system... You will love IT!

Btw, I just spoke to someone at MYT Works and YES they have a new Hard/Soft Case that was specifically designed for their sliders... Ordering mine first thing on Monday.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your inquiry. We are working hard to make a motorized system that will work with our Medium and Large sliders. We hope to have these systems (which will be backwards compatible with any Medium or Large Glide) available within 6 months. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to commit to an exact date, as the development of this system is contingent on factors beyond our control. For example, right now we are waiting on a new software interface from one of our partners, without which we cannot proceed. We want this system to be really good (open source software option, tablet control, etc), but that does require more time on our part.

I hope you understand.

We will definitely work something out as to a discount for this system, either for the Red User group or for our preexisting Glide owners in general.

David, thanks for the last group buy and I understand Proline is about to start shipping RAVEN'S, can't wait and now after Andrew Benz liking of MYT sliders and their new Hard/Soft Case that was specifically designed for their sliders..I'm in for another of your group buys. Hi everyone,

We thought it would be helpful to provide some basic product advice leading up to the opening of our sale. Our MYT systems come in three sizes - Small, Medium, and Large. For your sale only the Medium and Large are available at a discount. Here are some details on those two models:

Medium Glide:
- 80lbs. load capacity
- 4ft length Medium Glide weighs 11lbs.
- 7" rail span
- 9mm rail diameter
- Lengths available: 4ft, 5ft, 6ft, 8ft, 10ft, 12ft

Large Glide
- 200lbs. load capacity
- 4ft length Large Glide weighs 17lbs.
- 9" rail span
- 16mm rail diameter
- Lengths available: 3ft, 4ft, 5ft, 6ft, 8ft, 10ft, 12ft

Something that is very important to keep in mind is the difference in rail span. Depending on how you outfit your camera, this may be a crucial aspect to your selection. If you use long lenses, monitors, or other accessories that can lead to a rig with a high center of gravity, balance is an essential consideration. With a wider footprint than the Medium, the Large Glide provides increased stability for rigs like this.

As to lengths, you should think about how you tend to travel. If you go by van, having a longer Glide is not an issue. However, if you fly frequently, you should consider how you will transport your Glide. 4' is a very good length for flying. Even a 5' Glide will get through most airlines without being labeled as oversized luggage and charged accordingly.

You should also consider how you plan on mounting your Glide. We recommend mounting on a tripod with half-ball adapter on one side, and a 5/8 stand on the other. This is very easy to setup, and is also a very secure solution. If you won't be able to use the tripod-stand setup and will instead be mounting on two 5/8 stands, we highly recommend using clamp collars to increase the mounting stability. Alternatively, mounting with baby feet (short rods with rubber spheres) is a great solution.
