  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mysterium-X Poor quality 100fps. Fuzzy and blotchy image.

I shoot 4k 25fps and 2k 50-100fps all of the time and I have never had this problem. I debayer at full res to 1080p Avid DNX-185x using a RED rocket and RED CINE-X.

I have a Symphony DX and a grade 1 Sony broadcast monitor and on that monitor it is impossible to tell what is 4k and 2k. We use RED CODE 36 with RED DRIVES on an M-X

Are you using RECODE 28?

The only thing I have noticed is that we need to run the internal fan on the RED on MAXIMUM so the camera doesn't overheat.

This is a real issue that Red is aware of. They told me, "yeah, that happens some times. reshoot at different settings." They also said they think they have it fixed in the next Beta build, it says it's fixed in the release notes of the current build, but it is not. It is a specific issue that happens when shooting at 2k at high frame rates.

Meryem, unfortunately this is a key shot for me, and I'm going to have to go ahead with it despite the problem.

I assume you never came across a fix.
Hi Glenn,

Terrible news, hope you're not in too much bother...

Just an idea - since Nick suggests that dropping every other frame should get you a clean 50fps shot, perhaps you could look at dropping to a clean 50fps and then pulling it back up to 100fps using Twixtor (or your re-timer of choice)?

Obviously it's not ideal, but Twixtor's pretty good these days, and it might just get you out of jail - I would certainly expect better results than just going with the shot as is...

Hope that helps mate,
Best of luck with it...

Dom.
