  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mysterium-X ISO ratings...

The point of this was not to say... "look. We just beat a DSLR in high-ISO.". It is only to give you some reference to see how much better the M-X is than the M sensor. I certainly do think that high-ISO won't be a big differentiating factor anymore when talking about camera options. Certainly not as big as RAW, frame rates and data rates/compression technology. At some point, shooting ISO 10,000,000 just doesn't matter if you are line-skipping and it is being recorded to H.264.

I'll get my new OLPF put in today so we get to see how that works. Also... Graeme still has a few M-X tricks up his sleeve.

I'm just killin' time with these posts... don't get too worked up. Every day a little better...

Anyone that has been participating in this forum knows that very well...:yesnod:

I suppose no footage is grated. What 's the difference between No1 and No2?

To Jim and Red team: Great results, congratulations. If Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg had this tool back at 95 their dogme would have made more sense.

The footage RED1 vs. Canon 7D No.2 @ ISO 1600 left throughout The Foundry's Furnace Core Noise Reduction FCP 7 plug-in cleaning.

Not only the noise has been improved, but it seems the overall image finesse and color purity has been improved,

Very impressive.

Congrats!

Wow, this is very good news. Can't wait to shoot some available light stuff
with my new epic.
Now think FF Monstro and you get goosebumps.
Hope it wont take another year to get to FF but the S35 Epic will make it
an easy wait.
Keep on pushing guys. You keep my fire burning. :violent5:

ISO 10M. hahahaha

So $4500 for a NEW sensor AND an OLPF AND Graeme's magic?

man, what a SCAM! (for those who dont own an R1 that is)

Wish we could upgrade BEFORE Epic ships, that could be a really fun way to kill time Jim.

I get more excited for Scarlet each and every day.

I can't wait for you guys to show us some of those tests with a video as opposed to a still. Noise is generally more tolerable in a still than in video since the noise is dancing around the whole screen.

But from what I can see ISO 500 looks absolutely beautiful and ISO 1000 with a curve in post should be pretty tolerable too. Similar to the noise at ISO 500 on the original Mysterium.

Very impressive, guys. I'm noticing some noise in the red channel instead of the blue channel as I was expecting. I'm suspecting that will be even better with the new OLPF installed? Overall - very impressed!

What a tease!

What a tease!

I'm glad to head that things are moving forward and the developments look so promising. :)

However, it is quite a tease to know that the M-X is working on the current R1 and I can't get my hands on it until the Epic comes out ...

This reminds me of threads like these:

the original image is gone, but there is one later in the thread: (historical image from RED One)

I'm just saying that it is fun for us to get our hopes up, but I am waiting for some real-world tests by real people.

That looks like a producer's diet if ever I saw one. Just missing the bottle of breakfast vodka!

Rock on Jim. We're not worthy.

the funny thing is.. your basically forced to buy the upgrade.. I would get it regardless.. but Those who dont do it, will be left in the dust.. Im sure it will be a qualifying mark whether (is that the right way to spell that?) your camera works or not on a set again.

I would say that a RED One with upgraded M-X sensor will be a more desirable rental than one without. So the upgrade is definitely something to consider. For those who are trading in their RED Ones, it isn't something they would probably be interested in...

For those few in the TATTOO program or those doing the Stage-2 upgrade and keeping their RED One, it seems to make the most sense to get that M-X upgrade ASAP. Being early is an advantage and then both the RED One and their EPIC-X will contain the same sensor -- easy to match them up when used on the same production.

If you remember well guys I was already suggesting to Jim

STAGE 5

that means if somebody of R1 owners want M-X SELL IT to her/him right away without any condition.

So if you do a simple calculation let's say about something like 6000 R1 users would demand this:

$4500 x 6000 = $27 000 000

so that could be enough money to pay for that M-X development...

and even more for Epic/Scarlet that are in a heart of design to these new cameras anyway....

And as we already know well that Epic and Scarlet are totally different beasts than R1

that means R1 upgraded to M-X is not at the most cases in competition

with those new models because it has a slower computer speed hardware...

Actually everything between them can be "tweaked" very simple with a different firmware for each speed...

Now it's my understanding that with the R1, ISO is just metadata. By shooting at 100 ISO or 800 ISO, it doesn't change how the R3D file is recorded. It just changes the ISO metadata tag and changed the output of the monitor. Is this right?

If that really is the case, then will the M-X sensor be the same, or will changing the ISO actually change how the R3D file is recorded.
