I am a little confused about the Red One sensor

On the post of Brook Willard there is a diagram of all different film/sensor formats;

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1487&page=2

For what I can see is that the Mysterium sensor is (almost) the same size as the Nikon 35mm and Canon 1.6 Crop. Is this Nikon size the same as the DX sensor size? (compared to the full frame canon)

If so, would the Birger Nikon mount with Nikon DX lenses be a great option?

Can anyone enlighten this a bit?

thanks
Menno

Yep..

AGAIN?

Please read other posts first before staring a new thread on the same subject for the tenth times.

This is not a shortcut, it would only create problems for us in the future when you need to run searches.

Even with the Berger Mount, or any other mounts. Your lens choices still will play a factor.

Please ask about the particular lens not the chip or mount.

You already know the about the chip, and this is lens question not a red one question.

P. S. Per Mr. Brook's post.

What doesn't make sense to me about this is that if the arri super 35 is the same size as the red, why do we end up converting our lenses by a 1.6 factor?

When I shoot with an 18 on an arri 35mm body it means it's an 18.

If the capture plane in the back of the red is the same size as that why does my 18 become a 27ish after the 1.6 conversion?

Someone set me strait...

An 18mm on and Arri is an 18mm on 4K RED (about) is an 18mm on a 1.6 crop Canon (about) is a 27mm on a full frame 35mm still camera (about). Look at the widths... not the volume.

When I shoot with an 18 on an arri 35mm body it means it's an 18.

Then if you shoot that same lens on a RED, it'll be an 18mm. This stupid conversion factor thing only comes into play if you're used to full-frame still photography instead of motion picture photography. Full-frame still photography is equivalent to an 8-perf Vista Vision frame.

Just look at the picture. Full-frame still photography is much larger than motion picture photography. I just don't know how to make it any clearer than the diagram...

I think maybe what nicholas is missing here is that film runs through a cinema camera vertically. While film through a still camera runs horizontally. The size of the image plane on a cinema camera is there for small than a still camera because it is not as wide in the horizontal. I have had a few still photographer friends get this confused in the past.

There we go, Sellington nailed it on the head. Thank you. I have a background in photography on full frame sensors and that's definitely where the confusion came from.

Thanks for clarification.

That makes my day.
