Hey Jim!

About a week or so ago I asked about shipping for Epics, and you gave me a fantastic, and specific answer (Thanks again for that). Seeing as how you expect/hope to ship another 250 Epics before NAB, I am guessing this will certainly include some Epic Xs and I THINK I may be one of them!

NAB is 4 weeks 2 days away. So I am ass -uming that things could start popping within the next two weeks here. I have begun to channel my funds and get ready, but I still have a nagging question I was hoping you could now answer, or at least tell me WHEN it would be answered:

What am I getting? :w00t:

There has been a LOT of evolution to the system since the Stage 2 process was announced, and so I am no longer really sure as to what the package will include. The reason this matters so much was that I really planned every penny back when the Epic X package was first announced.. You know, Bomb EVF, CF Cards, Plates, etc.. However now the SSDs are out there, and while I think they are PERFECT for the new system, their costs throw my budget around a little, so I am trying to get a handle on the new numbers, and what I'll be getting. I'm also VERY curious if the Canon Mount will be available when the EPICs ship.

A a personal note: I am REALLY excited about all this.. I have watched as you all have run ONE HELL of a beta program this time around, and these cameras have become EXTREMELY bullet proof.

Ok so that's the request, any information you can give would be wonderful.

Jay

Same here. I am hoping for 150+ Epic X's delivered by NAB, and I hope #683 is low enough on the list to get one by May, I have big plans in May and would kill for and Epic by then, O.K not actually "kill" but...

Obviously they are still TAILORING all sort of packages that would be ready for NAB presentation.

That means short before or after NAB should be everything clear about that.

Epic cameras to be delivered as per Jim's recent post in Recon should surpass 500 before NAB, so it is safe to say that not all 100%
of Red Camera owners did the stage II so IMO you will be in this 500 before NAM Mark ;)

But that's M + X, as far as I read it.

So far 250+ M's are out.

Anyhow. The question Jay posts is more interesting, as the cameras inevitably will come when they eventually come.

Cheers!

If you take it as 250+ M's and the remaining from the 500 to be delivered by NAB would be X's then you take into account the unofficial list of Stage 2 owners...
It looks like they will fill stage 2 by May

In which case packages and more info about pricing etc. should come out in the next week or two

Though that is one heck of a number...it's amazing that there are so many out there... 250 for a camera of that intensity isn't exactly easy to spit out

Yeah I guess reading Jim's post again it could well be that this is M + X ;)

Edit: after Jim's other post, it was talking indeed that out of the 500 Delivered Epic before NAB, mostly will be Epic M to be delivered,
but Epic X will also start delivery before NAB ;)

Red's DSMC system is modular to the point it is so flexible that it will be possible to take one base camera and using different packages use this from photography, feature film, ENG, EFP, etc.....

one package doesn't fit everyone. Look at Gibby vs Rossi. One camera, but two very different cinematography styles.

A few base sample packages for different styles would be nice to see.

Hopefully a "package builder" will emerge. A system to take a camera, add different parts that are qualified for compatibility, with a suggestion system for recommending packages.

With all due respect, this is not the subject of this thread. Epic Stage 2 is to come with a pre-determined list of items. This list has most likely changed since it was introduced and the goal of this thread is to find out what those changes are so those of us in Stage 2 can make the right plans.

Your post is a good one, but I want to keep the focus here on the chance that Jim may drop by.

Thanks for asking this question, we all are eagerly awaiting an answer, but, what ever the answer, I will be happy just receiving my EPIC x stage 2, without anything....

Hi,
Will the SSD card module be offered as an upgrade for CF card module or is it included in the STAGE II price ?

Jay-Great thread. We are also very much waiting to see what the final Stage 2 package is so we can start planning our funds.

The 2 main things/questions that I believe have changed since the original Stage 2 package announcement:

1. We don't want CF and want to upgrade to the SSD.

2. We definitely want the Pro I/O module rather than the base module.

I believe there was talk about adding both of these to the package with an upgrade price.

Thanks!

Kevin

i guess it will be the sidehandle and the ssd module :)
the rest can be added as needed...like the epic-m but without the ssd cards and the bomb evf.

Ditto to Jay's sentiments - I'm excited too. I posted on the other thread but maybe it's more relevant here:

Snip... but the total number of EPIC-Ms out now is in excess of 250. I think that is half the population of Alexa's. The number shipped EPICs should surpass 500 before NAB.

Jim

I know it's dangerous to assume, but that would suggest to me a lot of "production" epic-xs - and I would think that would include sn206 since I doubt if all 205 before that went stage 2 (informal Stage 2 thread shows sn206 at #46 in line)

Nab is less than 30 days away - did I miss an email? Where do we stand?

I would humbly suggest that "package suggestions" be kept to a minimum (At least here). Feel free to start another thread on this as I would have some of my own!

However, this late in the game, I'm going to suggest RED already has the package pretty locked down, since they would have needed to make sure the nessesary pieces to support it are already in place!

Jay

Even if RED has already got the package down and I'm dying to know what the difference is between Stage 2 and 3 since I was set for Stage 3, they've changed the monitor to get rid of the small one and just stick with 5.0 so I'm curious as to how they would make the packages different, CF for the SSD being another change,

Regards to those that want different configurations or small branch of packages for different styles, RED's said in the past, whatever the base package is, your free to upgrade to different modules, for a price. If you get the Base I/O you can change to Pro for the difference... seems extremely fair and it means that they can churn these out in batches and hence bringing cost down for them and guessing that's how the cost of these packages are so low as some has been passed on,

If some of that 500 is X's and Stage 2 X's at that, surely this week or next be the best time to say "this is what your getting stage 2"

Also for the stage 2/3 owners there's suppose to be a different paint job on the EPIC's, not that it matters, just want the EPIC to be honest, I can wait for the rest of the bits later as long as they also also release new lenses with the EPICs!

Side note:
I'm assuming the SSDs are being churned out as quick as possible and being split between the M's and people in queue...

Sorry Jay if any of the above is off topic, tried to stay on topic,
I want to see packages too
