  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My NAB rundown

I really like the ND OLPF option as well. Field switchable? Having an OLPF that is optimized for exteriors in sun with good IR coatings and a N9 would be super. As well an OLPF optimized for interiors with less IR filtration that could be switched easily in the field would be a real winner in my book. Is this what the idea is?

Thanks

Thanks for your input here, Jay. The swappable (in the field, I assume) OLPF sounds exciting.

Hey Jay,

Thought I'd add a bit from what I gathered at NAB... Here's a summary of James Cameron's discussion on the future of 3D and sportscasting...

*Broadcast is actually the future of 3D.
*Transition to 3D will be like transition to color TV: technology supports the artform, does not dictate it.
*Sports filming is very reactive, and the craft of operating is something that is an acquired skill. 3D sportscasting will utilize the same camera operators, doing what they know, in the same positions on the field/court.
*The Stereographer will take a position of service, and not gatekeeper to technology.
*The 3D sportscasting business model doesn't work as, "we have a 3D crew and a 2D crew." There will only be one crew, who's final product happens to be 3D.
*Cameron predicts WITHIN 3 YEARS EVERYTHING WILL BE 3D, and 2D will be extracted from it, when necessary.
*3D and 2D integration will occur, using the same operator, rig, and camera position in what is called a dual "Shadow System" where 2D and 3D 'share an eye.'
*Directors will be able to select between 2D and 3D simultaneously. Everything will be integrated!
*Unlike the NBA All Star Game (where shots were limited by 2D-3D territorial issues), the PGA Masters had six Shadow Systems were used to cover the event, using only the normal 2D operators.
*Displays are affordable and available, consumer approval is demanding it, CONTENT MUST CATCH UP and deliver.

***Within 4-5 years we'll see, "high quality full resolution, full hd, large screens, with multiple viewing angles, WITHOUT GLASSES AT ALL. And this is the point when the curve is gonna go ballistic. I would caution anyone in the broadcasting industry against NOT being ready when that happens." -James Cameron
