People asked for this without a lot of searching. So I am trying to help.. If you've read all this.. Sorry:

Here is a brief run down of what I know.. I am sure it's been posted elsewhere, but what the hell:

1: There is a new Ipad App being developed.. It will allow control of Epic and the various "Looks" Saturation, Exposure, color balance, etc. "live" so the DP grabs an Ipad, dials in his/her look and it's in meta-data on the camea and the results are instant.. No more doing it in REDCineX and then downloading it to the camera if you don't want.

2: You will be able to swap different OLPF filters on the EPIC if you wish.. You can get an "Alexia Style" that softens and gives the impression of more resolution or dynamic range (I forget which), or more ND.. Whatever.. Very very cool.

3: Premiere 5.5 will support EPIC and already supports the new color science.. Also have much better control now with histograms and shit.. :) There is a 15% discount during NAB.. Look this up and take advantage of it.

4: Jarred changed the color of his EPIC AGAIN! Now it's dark grey.. I swear that guy is worse than my wife is with shoes! :)

5: I get the impression from Ted and Jim (This is not official, it's me reading Tea Leaves and watching body language cause I'm deaf as a stone) that the Japan thing is a little worse than they thought even from a couple days ago. It's taken a toll. There more gray hair on these guys than last time.. Well... On Ted.. With Jim... Not so much... Hair that is. :)

6: Band Pro will be selling EPICS but ONLY with a set of Leica lenses. I think they said 5. They will cost a LOT.. SO this deal will not be for everyone. They are a different channel.. Not competing with RED at all.. But it does say a lot about their relationship with RED. Good on them..

7: Next year the RED will offer an sensor upgrade to the EPIC. It's called RED DRAGON.. There are no details and there will not be.. Also, be safe and figure within the next TWO years.

8: RED Is showinig a short film called "Tattoo" here.. It has come well known names in the cast.. And it's visually stunning. However, people are not reacting that strongly to it from what I can see.. Why? Well we've see "District 9" and "The Socal Network".. So most people already know how stunning the camera looks. What IS impressing people is that the entire thing was made in around 5 days.. The time of a "slow post experience" with R3Ds is coming to an end.. That's huge.

Finally waiting on word about the new Final Cut.. Hope this helps people who are not here.

I'll update this as I can

Hi Jay,

Thanks for the info...

Did you see any Red Scarlet intercut with Epic Footage?

very interested in this... PLEASE RED>. make this an option for the redone as well.. I would love the softer alexa look olpf if possible

I learned that the Epic has a 3G SDI connection and can output 10-bit 444 (RGB) RedLogFilm on it. Team up with a Cinedeck Extreme (which, BTW, is tight) or a Gemini and you've got one sweet setup (and you can still record REDRAW at the same time).

Where can I find the NAB preimere cs5.5 discount! And do you know if it is for the whole production suite? or for just premiere (im not there so I cant ask adobe, and i googled and see nothing about the discount.

I have just seen this discount on the banners near the Adobe station.. I was waiting until I learned more about the Final Cut Pro release before I made my call.. However the announcement tells me very little of what I need to know: What happens to Quicktime, did they fix it? They support 4k... Goodie, but do they support R3Ds? What about Color?

Once again, more questions than answers.. I'm upgrading CS5 to CS5.5 tomorrow.

Thanks Jay.

If anyone can find the CS5.5 discount online please post a link. Thanks!

Put a 1/4 to 1/2 low-con filter in front of your lens. Same thing.

Red allowing the camera to shoot the cleanest image possible is one of the best things they have done. The control of the look should be in the hands of the creative and not a forced choice. I do like the low con look but it is not always wanted. The softening alexia has in front of the sensor is a mistake IMO but it does help hide sensor issues ;)

I can't tell you how much I love the idea of being able to add ND behind the lens. Absolutely brilliant.

Hey Jay,

Are you planning an Epic 101 DVD? Loving the Red 101 download from your site. Thanks!

...

While I do not have an EPIC to make a DVD with yet, we have just finished setting up the "new home" it will be living at. I wanted to give it a little plug.

When you get time, please go check out www.infotechacademy.net

All the DVDs we create, as well as online courses will be located on this site from now on.

Not much more to say at this point. It's just something I wanted to share with my "family" here on REDUser.

I'll let you know when something relevent comes up.
