  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My mom bought me a Red camera and now I'm a DP

I think it would fall under parody which is pretty well protected with usage, though I could be wrong.

I also think Jim would probably laugh at a few of those one liners too, though I could be wrong.

But it's not saying anything bad about RED, it is making fun of the idea that a camera makes one a DP.

Which is sadly an idea that I know a lot of people have in their heads, that if they could just shoot RED, they would be an industry DP and make it big, working on feature films and stuff.

Be able to shoot RED is definitely a marketable skill, but being able to shoot a wide variety of camera's across multiple formats is an even more marketable skill.
 
He's got skills. His Mom bought them. Does this mean skills are passed on to offspring?
 
It's funny, but the thing is this y'all. There are tons of people like that....it's called chasing a dream, artistic creativity, whatever.....that's the nature of the world. To think that reds and ideas need to be only based in the hands of "professionals" is a joke, and anti-art, art being what all of modern society and notions of civilization springs from to begin with. So power to the kids whose mom's bought them a red and they think they're a dp. if you think you are a dp you are one. and don't let anyone fucking tell you otherwise. go shoot, and ignore the noise.

exactly. and i finally figured out how to turn it on. (took delivery in 06 in Jim's backyard)

also. i was being ironic. the thread was winding up into one of those "ain't we just clever shits cause we film professionals" choruses........that aside, i do like coppola's p.o.v. at the end of hearts of darkness about the girl from ohio making a great film.....my daughter's gonna love the red for her school projects :001_wub:
