  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My first post here is a nightmare.

I'd be looking into sending that camera to red for evaluation. Definitely not normal operation.

Talk all to you BS rep, get an RMA and find a good shipping case.

Thanks for all your help David. I can't lie, I am pretty disappointed.

Yes, send it in.
Mine had a very similar problem and our serial numbers are quite close and mine had very low hours on it.
Tried everything, nothing worked.
Red said some boards were not up to specs and changed them at no cost.
Top notch customer service.
Problem solved.

I bought the camera from a mega church down in Florida. They had never even taken it outside, had never been powered by a battery. 500 hours. And it is not under warranty....

What David said. Send it in to get it checked out. It's nice that it was kept in a church with somewhat predictable use, but who knows what sort of chaos could have happened over time there.

I'm thinking moisture might be the culprit if something is amiss inside the brain, but it's hard to tell without sending it in for a full diagnostic. Tell your Bomb Squad exactly what you're experiencing and the tech will dig deep to find your gremlins.

Also,

while this is a big drag and you get that deflated feeling of a New England Patriots game ball, you can feel really good knowing that REDs service is top notch. High level of communication and reasonable timeframes.

I transferred ownership Friday the 23rd. It fails Sunday the 25th, my birthday. And I just sent it back.

FYI, you get 90 day warranty renew when you do the ownership transfer (which requires the camera be sent in for evaluation for that purpose).

Good thing you were able to send it in before Snowpocalypse hit.

If you have any issues after you get it back, feel free to drop me a Private Message; I live just north of Boston (Arlington) and even if I can't fix the problem, I can at least help confirm that you're not crazy/doing-something-wrong.

Thanks Nick, I live in Marblehead....we getting some waves right now....

we have problems with our Epic 2 times during a long shooting day with our clients behind our shoulders.. not good. But the service from Red was perfekt!! Next day we got our replacement! unbelievable good service!! I think you will get a perfekt working Camera back! Don't worry! Tomorrow the sun will shine again!
Best, Marinus

After a long delay (because of the snowstorms here in the northeastern US, my camera is finally back at RED in Irvine. Hoping for the best......fingers crossed!!!

So, I don't have my camera back yet, but RED tells me that they replaced a bad audio input jack, found a bad card that caused my problems, replaced two other cards with upgrades and after full testing of the camera, are overnighting it back to me. The total cost?? 0. Unbelievable. You don't get that kind of customer service just anywhere. I bought my camera second hand, transferred ownership and two days later it bricked. I thought I was SOL...Because the warranty was long over, but man was I wrong, and man am I happy. Thanks everyone from Matt to Nick and Nabil!!

Heh. Your first post was a nightmare, but I think you just experienced rather wonderful customer service. There's a lot of unspoken subjects when it comes to being a Red owner, but over the years their customer support has become infinitely more on point.

Phil, you are right, and I wish I could change the name of the post!!!
