  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

My DIY Timelapse Dolly...

Ah, I see now. I'm sorry

Some of your other videos looked as if it was day time too.

For example-

I guess you just use a longer exposure time, so it looks almost mid-day?

well that shot was with a 100% full moon, so it does tend to look like daylight, because the stars are faint compared to the sky and landscape.

Very nice.

I love it when people make their own tools.

I think David Gilmour and Roger Waters just gave each other a hug, that's how moved they were by your images. Seriously man, keep it up, you're getting great stuff and this will attract some attention from buyers, just need to keep going with it. It's top notch!

I was out shooting this the other night under the stars, playing Floyd on my ipod, trying to think of ways I might beg them to let me include some of their songs in a short version of "These Short Days," or in the actual movie. It's probably a one in a million chance, but I guess you never know what might strike someone's fancy. It's good to dream, right? :)

I got to get out to where you are and watch this in person. You're having way too much fun!

Tom, you're a wacky wild mad inventor, just like me. We've got to get together sometime and bounce ideas.

Keep the genius and the hooting-good-shooting flowing!

:)

The gear and the product are beautiful concepts, well executed. Gotta love DIY hardware that leads to great footage! You've got me motivated now.

Congrats!

Mike

Looks cool. I've been building myself a CNC controlled mill with stepper motors this winter and was thinking about making a three or four axis controlled head too. Would be a fun late night project in the workshop :-)

Tom, beautiful work as always my friend. I greatly appreciate your being an open book and sharing your process with us.

Take care and keep in touch...

Andrew

Pawel, did you finish the PL-mount 50D??

The surgeon is telling me that last stitches are being put, so I guess it is getting close. I can't wait myself.

My motion control is ready. I built my own slide too. It is 1.8m long, but can also work vertical and can lift 100lb, if you want to put a big rig on it. Apart from a programmable controller I also have proportional joystick to operate it in real-time. I would post pictures, but guess what....I don't have a still picture camera :angry2:

Great rig Tom.. The footage is fantastic!

Do you have a parts list?

Thanks
Dave

Haha... Pink Floyd, insane desert imagery... I keep thinking that you need to get out to Canada and shoot HDR timelapses of the auroras, never done before stuff where you really get tons of detail on the shadows of the landscape while retaining all the sharp detail on the lights...

and sell it to HBO instead, or project outdoors at 2k and charge admission for parties massive parties... lol...

That was some very nice footage as always. Seeing footage like this makes me want to get into MC rigs for my stuff. I think if done right it can look very cool. Some people use it way too much or they move the camera too fast. Slow pans is where its at.

What type of motor is used?

Lol what do you mean no still camera? You chopped them all up?? :)

What type of motor is used?

24V Stepper Motor, Type 34. It can actually lift 250lb, it is just the mounting of the rig is not as strong.

....it was all well intended :innocent: LOL

Seriously though, I sold my 40D and 5D mk1 and bought brand spanking new 50D that went stright from B&H to the chopping board. So the short answer is: Yes.
