Hello good people of Reduser. I just received my email from RED letting me know I can send in my Epic M Dragon for the Weapon upgrade.
I'll be selling off all my accessories from that camera in hopes of offsetting some of the upgrade costs.

My question to you Weapon owners is:

What the hell do I need to buy to make my Weapon fully functional?

Any ideas out there? Are there some must have accessories?

Looking forward to hearing from the Weapon owners.

Thanks,
Jay

Which Weapon did you get?

You will also need a new Base plate. I had an Epic base plate from Wooden Camera and although it fits the LW 15mm rods are 5mm horizontally shifted so useless if you want to fit a matte box to the rods

The minimum is to buy a module for the power (Redvolt XL Module or V-Lock Expender) and a module for the display (Lemo Adaptator A if you already have an EVF/LCD or new LCD cableless). You can't use the camera without that because you need power and you need to see what you're filming. Don't know yet what is the best way to handle the camera (the new side handle is not available yet).

For the baseplate, I bought the new Weapon WC Easy Riser and the LW 15mm rods.

If it were me I'd do as Etienne suggests and just get a minimum setup going, then wait and see what new modules and accessories are announced over the next few months. RED and third parties are working on things that they haven't revealed details about yet.

I'd look to wooden camera and reds accessories for now. WC has a YouTube video about all their accessories that helps along with checking red.com and reading the manual on weapon

if you plan to buy the V-mount and use RED bricks, you will want to pick up the (also forthcoming) Universal Handle - the supplied Weapon handle is too long and will conflict with the RED bricks - the WC handle is also a good alternative.

The Universal Handle is in the RED store but not yet shipping. But it may be a good idea to get an order in to get in line, so that when the RED V-mount ships, you have it.

WC stuff is good - my EPIC is all WC, and it is good quality stuff. I'm trying to hold out a little longer and see what various manufacturers release before I invest heavily into any particular system.

There was some "heh heh heh" in another thread indicating that RED (or some friend of RED) may be working on some lower profile V-lock batteries - might also be worth waiting on....

Are any of you Epic M guys going with the MG Weapon by chance?

Yes sir. After the price drop and calculating tax deduction and selling some accessories it was a pretty great deal in my opinion.

They projected January 26th or so for CF fulfilled is what the latest recon thread seems to state. Of course this date can change but lately red seems to be making their dates a lot better than previously. I believe that puts MG starting then, but based on orders it may take time like CF has until everyone has placement. But it seems to be moving fast is the good news for those anxious to get dsmc2 in hand. The line up has me constantly considering more units too
