Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
So, I know that most music is recorded at 44.1khz, so what is the best way to shoot a video on these reds and sync the 44.1khz file to the video edit without the music drifting from the visuals?
The key is to add timecode to the music track to prep it before being played back live on set. Transmit the timecode to a timecode slate and shoot it with the camera to help the editor sync the track later on. (Optionally, you could also send a feed of the playback audio to the camera as a scratch track.)
Ideally, the playback should be referenced to genlock and timecode, but it will work for more than a minute just playing back on a laptop. There are cases where a full Pro Tools rig are needed in complex situations to play back on set, but that's fairly specialized (like recording live vocals or having dialogue during music playback, ala Les Miserables or La La Land).
Most simple way to get it right is to.
1 Capture sound on camera.
2 Make a quicktime file with large tc in picture and the song added to the sound track.
Then you can playback from an ipad and use it as a slate infront of camera to get in sync.
Perhaps you can try a portable in-ear binaural microphone Scenes Lifelike, which can just use iPhone to record 44.1kHz/ 24bit lossless binaural audio. Because it is certified by MFi and compatible with all iOS devices equipped with a Lightning connector.
The operation is very easy and convenient.
1. Connect it with your iPhone via the Lightning port,
2. Put it on in your ears
3. Open iPhone built-in videos software to record binaural audio.
Also, the device directly uses iPhone for power and storage without any battery or SD card. So the recorded binaural audio has video in 3D binaural audio in 44.1kHZ without drifting from visuals.
