Cheers Jochen :)

It didn't occur to me to look at their site/blog (doh!) - http://www.movirig.com/ - interesting that the smaller Movi is $5K. Seems they're reacting to all the other announced smaller Gimbals (Defy et al), but keeping the Movi 10 at $15K.

Was hoping for a price drop on the M10. No go though.

How 'weather proof' would u imagine this unit would be? Wondering how it will handle rain and dusty situations.

Note to self: Dont rent out to WesG!

;-))

No, seriously. I haven't been to any of the shows, so I have no idea about the outdoors capabilities of this thing.

Cheers,
Jochen

I wish they gave a better representation of what the M5 camera load could be. I couldn't find any documentation on camera size and weight it could carry comfortable. $5K seems reasonable, but does this M5 only carry Canon cameras??

Hey guys, I just had freefly sponsor a short film i DP'd with an Epic. if you guys have any questions at all, let me know as I can answer them pretty well after spending a good 2 days with the system.

Weight on the m10 will hold an epic with cne or cp2 lens fine and remote follow focus. The only real issue is lens swaps. Might be quicker on the production model but it took almost 20 mins and up for a lens change with weight balancing. It wasnt terrible but lots of down time. Also as much as it can be a time saver it can just as easily be a time waster. Trying to choreograph blocking with 3 operators (a must if you ask me) can be very taxing as everyone has to be on point.

We were also using teradek and Redrock micro products and it was a pain. The range was garbage. plain and simple. 15ft tops. The monitoring system was mainly the issue. The redrock remote follow was actually really nice. The big issue is the power distro. At any given time, you need 6 battery powered items across 3 operators and whenever 1 goes down, all the shooting stops.

Now this was a pre pro model and prototype, so cant say all of this will be true on production runs, but all in all even with its set backs, it was a nifty little tool.

Ill be doing a full comprehensive review with pics and footage soon so stay posted.

As far as water goes, dont plan on it. the ops were saying its not water proof at all and wouldnt even think of shooting even in light mist.

If you have any certain questions please ask :)

This HD wirelsss monitoring is situation is such a pain in the ass. We are constantly running into these same troubles on our steadicam... walk like 10 feet away from the rig and signal starts dropping... it's ridiculous. Someone needs to make a good HD wireless solution that is bullet-proof up to hundreds of feet.

100% agree tom. Makes it a huge pain in the ass for logistics sometimes.

Have you tried the Paralinx? Just curious if you had because I hear a lot of good things about it.

Sorry I'm a little bit out of the loop. Does anyone have a MOVI yet, especially if they are willing to rent it out for a day? Please contact me at jason@CinemaOxide.com

No MoVIs available until the ship date of Aug 15th. Unless you're like Dom and live close to Redmond and can have the Freefly guys come out with one for a shoot (I'm totally jealous, BTW… I live a mile from Freefly HQ and still have to wait a couple of months for my M10 to get in!). If mine comes in earlier than expected and you still are looking to play with one I'll get in touch.

Hello Domenic,

As I shoot a lot of documentary and features with sound on set, could you tell me if it makes some noise, gimbal...?
Loaded with the lightest Epic setup (without battery attached to the body or sidehandle and a CP2 prime) what is the weight of the handheld rig?

Thanks

Patrick

PS Using Paralinx with great success here. 50 feet without problem, 50-250 feet with some signal loss (depending on positioning), >250 feet no go.
