I've been super happy with my Movi + Epic Dragon + Ultra Primes + easyrig setup. It's great to see it adopted on productions of this caliber.

I'm wanting to get one of these (or some reasonable facsimile) very soon. We have a real low budget feature shooting this summer and the Movi would be great for it, especially as the DP will be operator anyway on the A cam. Really adds some fantastic production value.

Epic was always meant to do things other cameras couldn't.

Nice to see one of the most watched shows on television make use of that Red design -- rigging pulleys in the trees, floating handheld over ravines.

Great stuff, Jarred... I can only hope the Carbon Dragon filmed the fight sequence between Oberyn and The Mountain :)

Travis, do you find it difficult to shoot at "head height" to actors with the MoVI/Dragon/Easy Rig setup? I recently shot a commercial with MoVI and EPIC (ultra primes), and the underslung configuration of the rig made it a challenge to hoist the lens high enough while running.
I've considered pairing MoVI with an EasyRig to help with the weight load, but I assumed that the actual extender arm from the top of the EasyRig would inhibit the operator from raising the lens higher than chest level.

Would love to hear your experience with the EasyRig/MoVI.

Thanks!

Okay I better finish up season three ;)

An easyrig will never be great when running.
I use a custom setup (without an easyrig) with the camera over slung - using the movi ninja star plate between the MoVI and a dual 19mm rod handle system that uses Red parts, as well as L & R rosette handles and rosette handle extensions instead of he MoVI handles.
With this setup, by adjusting the handle extensions up or down, you can get the lens anywhere from 1 foot to about 8 feet off the ground, without bending. The dual rods stop the weight of the epic loosening off the handles when tilting (works nicely underling also).
Under slung you just have to be careful at the pan knuckle doesn't slip- the MoVI will collapse to the side ( this will not be an issue with the m15 upgrade).
You'll find having your hands lower, in the over slung mode, makes the camera much more comfortable to carry for head-high shots.

SWEET BABY JESUS !!!

RED DRAGON and Game Of Thrones....my two favourite things together, would be interesting to see what GOT would look like with more Epic footage. ^^

Except I missed out this week cause you americans postponed an episode thanks to the public holiday on monday :p

Hey Mark

Any photos you can share?

I believe it's still primarily Alexa show, but for really hard and demanding stuff they now use Dragon

Makes sense.

The words hard and demanding is easily slayed by the DRAGON ;)

Sorry I didnt have a good lunch, Im a little woozy :P

LOL!

Thanks for the in-depth description, Mark. Now, the trick is to find some MoVI rental contacts who have taken the initiative to apply these modifications for more versatile operating. I'd love to use the MoVI again, and your "setup" seems really smart.

We have rewired the MoVI so that it runs from 2 x v-lock batts housed in a small backpack. 1 x power cable supplies the power from both batts to a Lemo connector we have built into the MoVI handle. It then splits into 2 cables. 1 batt powers the MoVI and the other powers the CF Dragon, cmotion wireless focus, 5.6" TVlogic operators monitor and Teradek Bolt transmitter. Not having any batts on the rig has made a HUGE difference in terms of weight. Also we no longer need to use LiPO batts :). We can easily fly anywhere in the world with this setup without power worries.
