Earlier this year, my partner and I invested in a Movi M10. Its been great, but has required a lot more cash than the 15k price for rig and monitors. At this point we have over 25k invested into the rig, follow focus, monitors, transmitters, batteries- Everything that is needed to operate the Movi properly with minimal downtown. As you know, Movi has just announced new pricing. I honestly feel that the new price drops are a kick in the gut..Furthermore, the 6k to upgrade to the M15 is even a bigger kick in the gut and is hugely disrespectful to the artist community. Freefly originally stated a 3k upgrade would be available for early buyers (pioneers?). I feel Freefly is practicing awful business to those who have helped form and make them who they are (US, THE VISUAL COMMUNITY). How does a company cut its product by nearly 50% and feel as if they don't owe us some assistance? Sorry for the rant, but i feel used and am not happy at all with the way the company is handling this transition. Its time to put big boy pants on and act like the big company you are becoming.

They been needing to cut prices to compete in the market since the announcements of other gimbals much cheaper like the dji. Surprised they lasted this long before cutting prices. But it was bound to happen as more gimbals systems come out for more reasonable prices as the movi still costed way too much.

Yeah I don't see any other choice in the matter for them. Still, wonder what would have happened if they came out with a different model. Cheaper (as the new price was) and market it (like the Sachtler Ace) as an alternative to the Movi models. Keep the Movi brand "high end" and offer a different line for beginners and the competition. Might confuse their product line but it also might take the sting out of the Movi having a price drop.

Everyone knew the price of them woukd drop massively from day 1.... But yeh it sux when that happens, hopefully you made its money back 10 fold in work though......

WOW!...almost 50% difference. Maybe they have something up their sleeves in the coming weeks (besides the M15). I almost purchased a M10 but decided to grab a Ronin...looks like I made a good call, even if it was just waiting out for the price drop.

Adriaan,

I hope they (Freefly) can make this right with you and others that feel the same way. I pre-ordered one last year, paying the $2k deposit and waited. It just didn't work out at the time...

Look at what the competition is doing ie Ronin, Helix. Even with the new pricing are they competitive ?

Glad I waited for this particular shakeout. This technology just keeps improving daily. So many good options now.

Absolutely but don't think people should be punished for being an early adopter. Seems backwards to me.

I'm guessing you were not around here when RED dropped the pricing on the Epic, which caused great wailing and gnashing of teeth. That price drop was a bigger one than the Movi, so you're bringing it before the wrong audience for any sort of sympathy. Not that that helps sooth the sting whatsoever, but just to say there are those of us here who understand, just been there before.

Honestly, I'm glad the prices are not as high as they once were. But it does have a suck factor to it, no doubt about it. It's a teaching moment, as in, "I'm not going to buy anything anymore until I absolutely need it for a job." Trying to keep up with technology will kill you.

Phelan's got it. Don't buy stuff unless it's inconsequentially cheap or you need it for a job.

Let me put it another way: why would you upgrade for $6k to an M15 when, by the time your rig is actually over the 12lbs limit of the m10, the m15 will be $7k brand new? In fact, why get a Freefly at all when DJI's will be $2k and support 20lbs in the same timeframe?

Anyone who bought a Movi since the Ronin price was announced should have realized a big price adjustment was coming.

Freefly needed this drop to stay an option in the majority of gimbal buyers minds.

I was in the first 50 orders for the M10 and I'm not upset at all, in fact it's a better deal than the upgrade was. Here's my reasoning:

- I was the first in my region to have a Movi, and it's paid for itself more than twice over. I've done some really fun projects with it (Nike, NY Knicks, more) and it's allowed me to grow my business.
- The M15 will cost $12k, but I can get one today at $6k because I'm an early adopter. 50% discount is huge.
- I can likely sell my M10 for around $6k even with the price drop, meaning the M15 upgrade is a wash for me. It's even better than paying $3k for an upgrade.

That said, I know a guy that bought an M5 about 4 weeks ago and I definitely understand if he's not happy. But hey, there will always be price drops and new technology, especially in our industry, and you will ALWAYS buy something right before something better or cheaper comes out. That's just how it works. If you let it kick you in the nuts every time it happens, you'll spend a lot of time on the ground in the fetal position and less time working and making money.

Jonathan,

Very true words sir. Technology is always changing...and if you wait for the price to come down before buying/adopting a piece of gear, you'll likely miss out on a lot of opportunities.

I am yet to see as smooth footage as the MoVI from the DJI or any other gimbal.

Buy an equipment only i) if you can make money soon to recover your investment and make sufficient profits for your living ii) make so much money before your equipment gets obsolete that it doesn't hurt if your equipment becomes irrelevant

I remember Jim Jannard used to say in these forums that buy only if you can make money soon. In these times when new products are launched virtually every month, one can't guarantee longevity of the products. Companies have to launch new products and/or lower the price to survive. If Freefly would not have halved their prices, they would have become history. All the economies of scale talk is just pure "bs".

Just think of what Sony did to F55 owners. Now the F5 guys can get free 4k by changing a text file or pay 1k USD and officially get internal 4k. And to top it all, they launched FS7 at 8K with similar feature set and you should be glad that you were not a F5/FS700 owner now. :)

Tough times. We can't change the times we live in, so we have to accept these competitions as a fact. So fret not. Your MoVI is an excellent tool and will continue to make money for you, irrespective of the new competition in terms of new 3 axis gimbals.
