This is more of a share and a +1 than anything, but if you have a Dana Dolly and are looking for a fast way to get pixel accurate MoCo, you've got one as of today:

Most of you who know me also know I'm a looooooooong time user of the Dana Dolly and for many years we've been using it as a platform to build custom motion control rigs, but there honestly hasn't been a nice out of the box solution for that platform. I know it's something Mike really wanted for Dana Dolly and I know I've been after something like this forever.

That's where eMotimo comes in with the ST4 integration. Literally all you do is mount the camera to the ST4, the ST4 to the Dana Dolly, the motor to the dolly sled, attach two end brackets to the edge of the track, and loop through the belt. Then you're up and running. It takes around 5-10 minutes. Personally I leave the motor on the sled at all times now, which shaves off a couple minutes even if you are switching from fluid head to MoCo use.

This thing satisfies a few big things for me. It's quiet enough to run audio for live action setups, can support up to 15-17lbs of payload reliably, has live action and timelapse capability, isn't a mess of cases and wires, and it's fast to setup.

I'll post some BTS stills shortly (when I can), but as of late I'm even powering the camera through the V-Mount on the eMotimo as well as some footage. I've been shooting with it out in the field for a few months now both in commercial indoor capacities and outdoors work.

There's some RED specific integration coming and even more robust control on the way alarmingly soon that I can't talk about now. But if you've got a DD that you use often, this is a way to get it to move on it's own that's suitable for production work.

Beautiful, what's the ETA for the RED specific integration. Any chance of a GB?

Phil,
Thanks for the shout out!

Hey Abioden,
I run eMotimo and have been working with Phil. Also a RED user and working through the RED integration path. We should be able to show off the basics within the next 3 weeks. I won't get into specifics until we have something to actually show off and prove, but I think it can really help streamline difficult portions of VFX workflow.

If there is enough interest, we could put together a Group Buy out here. Let's see where it goes!

Best regards,
Brian Burling

Thanks Brian, your product is very nice, been looking for this type of solution/integration especially with DD. Looking forward to what you are working on with RED.

Looks very interesting. Any plans to support bringing the controller axes data into Maya, so we can tweak the motion and export back to controller?

Id take one too.

Hi Brian,

Hot Rod Camera did a demo for me and I was super impressed!!! I don't own a Dana Dolly... any plans to adapt eMotimo to other sliders? Particularly MYT Works?

Thanks

Possible with Maya, but not in the development queue. We have an expanding API that can be commanded with a fairly simple command set. Simple moves for positioning, coordinated timed moves, and move exports are all supported currently. Many users like the run-and-gun nature of the wireless controller for many shots, but this is just one option. Stay tuned on the control front near the end of February. We will have a demo for those looking for a more robust keyframe interface to compose, tweak, save, load moves in the real time environment.

Is there anybody that done a comparison to between the eMotimo ST4 and the Kessler CINEDRIVE?
Im aslo interested to know if there is any comparisons between the Dana Dolly and Kessler SHUTTLE DOLLY.
