  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

more renders...

I have to agree with Cesar on this (his post #452). I hate to be at all negative as I am a big Red supporter and a customer, but the Red One has a much more practical form factor than the layout in this rendering, however cool looking it is.

You are alone in this belief... and we have held them all.

Then I bow down to you and Jarred. I was merely envisaging an XLR plug sticking out of one of the XLR sockets and thinking it may block the controls. But, as Jarred said, the perspective may be fooling me. No offense intended. Merely observing.

Maybe you could include a CAD human holding the camera to demonstrate the human factors issues.

Also, the system is MODULAR, I see no reason why the battery expansion cannot sit behind the grip instead of the I/O module. Or... a RED SPACER! (sorry if I spoiled the BIG surprise there RED team).

Tim.

And now a mockup version

Congratulations on the new designs, I didn't say anything previously, but I was wondering why you were not going that way before. Like you, I have been interested in a crossover model from DLSR to Video for years.

Will there be any special price for scarlet 3D 3K/5K configuration packages over singular packages (like a thousand dollars more for 3D)?

I still would like a cheap knock around pocket camera, for carrying around. Have you considered my previouse proposal for a $500-1000 720p50(/1080p) 3D camera based on ambarella h264 codec chips at 18-24mb/s (with 5mpixel+ stills, GPS and live raw HDMI out)? Such a camera could be manufactured OEM (even given away with scarlets).

There is plenty of room... but you can do what you want.

Jim, Jarred:
The Long Awaited Guns n Roses album sucks.
You guys rock way more, with far less downtime:)

Thanks 3rd Man.

Ted should be getting bras thrown at him... people just don't get how the planets are shifting.

FUCKIN' A MAN! Just f'in yea!

This is just the thing that goes un-noticed but tells you so much about the company in question... RED is my new favorite color, officially, even if Green is my favorite color, Red just got the corner office.

Roberto,

also thanks and credits to Mike Curtis who shot the photo and wrote some analysis.

Of course, but thanks for the link my man...

NOW... being a Gun's n' F' in' Rose's! Fan... I must say now:
when will people learn to listen... shit changes every so often... at times, history realigns itself. Or find out for your self.

You could just ask Slash. Or Izzy if you really are into the facts.

Even they would agree that in for many songs it is nice to, finally, have some Axl available... listen to "Better". He was missed too.

The world is changing.
red-work in progress...

Nuff' drinkin' for me 2'nigt.

How does the handle connect to the body?
Jim?

Yeah, Scarlet's and Epic's user determined configuration reminds me of arguments some well know User Interface gurus had with Flash based websites. Since Flash allowed the designer to break free of a grid based design, it allowed for all kinds of new graphical user interfaces that broke with "traditional" GUI models.

I suspect, the flexibility of this system will allow someone to stack a dozen battery packs on a Scartlet and create a monstrosity in terms of human factors. But this is to be expected in any system which allows users to configure the ultimate form of the camera. Once the user learns by testing the extremes, (a dozen battery packs on a Scarlet, or a website menu system so convoluted the contact info is impossible to find) a moderate configuration is settled upon where the form factor does not interfere with the object's ultimate purpose.

So, while its pretty obvious RED doesn't want to dictate form factor, some common configurations (and monstrosities) will emerge based on usage over time. Without even thinking about it, we'll all settle into the practice of placing the battery packs between the brain and the XLR module just to give the side handle controls more breathing room. Ultimately, once everyone gets their hands on a Scarlet or Epic, I think the flexible nature of the system makes this a self-resolving issue.

See? how does the handle connect? does the piece in the center of the side come out? hmmmm.... and somehow the top corner of this render looks different than the image above in Ted's hand....
Answer? (or maybe a render...?)

On the top of the unit I see a set of five holes in the front and one in the rear. I don't know about those five so close to the sensor, but the one in the rear could be threaded to use as a mounting point. If there is a simple plate to wrap the edges of the top surface then the handle would not rotate. Pretty straightforward.

Good question on attaching the handle.

As for comparison, you're comparing a render of Scarlet to a physical prototype of EPIC that Ted is holding.

maybe the handle slips right into the open lines.
