  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

more renders...

As someone who does a lot of handheld operating, I was curious about what the ergonomics of the new product lineup would be.

It appears that the shoulder-mount configurations shown in the new renders would have a lower center of gravity than the Red One, because of the shoulder pad placement, which should increase overall stability. Also, the smaller (and I'm guessing lighter?) EVF should help with side-to-side balance.

But I'm still concerned about front-to-back balance, since most of the weight seems to be forward of the shoulder pad (even with a brick mounted in back). If you're handholding for long periods of time, you don't want to have to be holding the camera up with your arms!

It would be great if you could mount enough of the rig behind the shoulder pad to balance it out even with a heavy prime, MB and FF.

Jim, Jarred,

I have a Dimension SST 768 (8"x8"x10" working envelope) ABS fused deposition modeler, that is only used occasionally and I will be happy to donate time on the machine if you want to send .STL files. I can mail you back parts.

Happy to help if your RP machine is backed up!

Just for Mark...

uh, isn't this way too much front-heavy?
guess i should put four red bricks on the back to balance this one ...

Red should have snap on Face Plates for all those who love to accessorize. Like iPod, Pink Fuzzy Hairy, Bumpy Textures, Glow in the Dark, Hello Kitty, Camouflage, etc., hey-ay.

Jim, I don't know if you realize this, but the more of these you post, the more you make me NOT want to complete the purchase of my R1 by my December 1st deadline. This new platform design is stunning in every way.

I don't know how I can hold out another 6-12 months, but when I consider that I'll be waiting at least six months for a Nikon Birger mount to use with a R1, and that I was seriously considering upgrading my Nikon D40 still camera . . . Waiting for a S35 Scarlet (augmented with a second 2/3" brain for fast frame rates at 3K) just seems like the smart decision for someone on a budget.

Are you -- at this point and while ever mindful of the "everything is subject to change" disclaimer -- very optimistic that the first Scarlets will start shipping by next summer?

When is the Matte-box going to be available...?
It's clear now that You are past the "thinking" stage on this issue, but I see no reason why the MB should wait for Scarlet and/or Epic... Red Ones are being sold as we speak (I've just placed an order for 5451) and we need MB's too... I am about to plunge $5K on ARRI MB - but if I knew the RED MB could be out before Christmas - I will wait...

as we haven't heard anything.. maybe next christmas...

A simple way to balance these out would be to mount some weights to the back. Thousands cheaper.

Maybe it's just the Australian in me, but can there be attachment sites to hang little corks from... it's meant to keep the flies away.

Ooh, ooh, yeah and a cup holder for VB perhaps!

Tim.

Is not that ridiculous really, except for maybe the top rods poking you in the eye everytime you try to get close to the viewfinder :-)

Viewfinder won't work when filming. That is one of the real bummers with respect to the design of the 5D II. I'd hate to hold a DSLR off my head just to be able to use the tiny screen as viewfinder.

And a zinc applicator fitted just under the viewfinder to apply a dab to the bridge of the nose while shooting

tom at least once i agree w/ you..

If there is constructive criticism that makes sense, we listen (and pretend not to).

If there are people that have no clue what they are talking about, but pretend to, we don't listen... and get irritated if others do.

If people are here just to make our lives miserable, we ban them... of course.

We love this stuff. We are addicted to it. This is the most fun (in business) that I have ever had. Hope it lasts... :-)

Jim

this guy is funny..

we all hope you Mr Jannard still keep listening.. we need to.. you too Red.

I think this qualifies as camera erotica for some of the people here.

One of the issues is that people here have good ideas, but they may not be possible for some reason that we don't have time to explain. These cameras are dependent on a thousand things coming together in a small box. It is easy to say "hey... how about this?". It could be a great idea, but there is either no room, we are over the heat threshold, it would compromise something else, it is cost prohibitive, or any number of other implications. And we just don't have time to tell why this can or can't work. Additionally, changes take time. We could get into a never ending evolution of undelivered products. Every time a new idea is implemented, ten other possibilities spring from it.

I think that our recent release shows that we do listen. And we have taken what we have heard to levels that no one thought of. But we can only do so much in such a short period of time to hit all the wishes in a price and size arena that everyone thinks is ideal.

We will post more info when we can...
