  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

more renders...

While "typically" you would want different settings for motion and still, I can think of many instances when one "stream" would work for both.

Doesn't really matter, we have a switch between the two and a separate menu for each.

A small number, yes. That's why the burst modes on the SLRs exist, but reliable tracking AF is also required for most of those situations.

I gotta say, one of those 3D renders looks a lot like -- please don't get upset people -- well, a Phantom HD.

Jim, flattery will get you everywhere!

Beautiful stuff, Jim. I'm patiently waiting Epic FF35...

You care to give any indication of when some of those sweet ass accessories will be available? I'd love to get that shoulder mount and matte box for my RED ONE.

... and help spread the impending cost of upgrades and accessories over a few months instead of a big lump sum.

Wasn't that long ago that I was laughing to myself at how ridiculous this was. Doesn't seem so funny now does it?
Red's concept is way sexier.

exactly my thoughts. It still is silly because it doesn't go beyond. But the Scarlet and Epic is block that just fits into everything and looks good doing it. Even better than SI-2K.

Love the renders! Thanks for all the work on these.

I am still wondering if we're really going to have a glossy black surface our matte. I see it's possible to have a matte surface in the renders so I assume it's a choice you guys are making. True?

Hmmm... looking at some of the renders the drives and red-bricks look glossy, too, but if I'm not mistaken, they are matte in real life, so I'd assume the whole thing will be matte come production.

oh god... not another one.

Love coming home to these renders Jim!

Was thinking about your brains (no pun intended) tonight and was wondering about the absence of a physical shutter/mirror and how this could expose the imager to a lot of potential debris. Is there some sort of system in your designs that would protect the interior of the imager box when a lens is removed? A spring loaded shutter? A piece of glass? Something? Getting sand or whatever else is flying around in the gate with 35 is one thing because you can always blow it out and load a fresh mag... scratching the imager though poses a whole new, and more expensive, set of problems.

Too early to be asking this?

Buy an Artic Butterfly DSLR sensor cleaner, it works great.

oh god... not another one.

Sorry for asking guys. I must have missed the answer on this.

Having traveled a good portion of the globe filming, we always taped the crap out of the new cameras and lenses to take the gloss off. Nothing like bright and shinny gear to paint a "steal my gear" target on your back. I know this is not a problem filming on a set but documentary field work in third world countries can be a delicate matter.

I won't ask again.

Just a thought, which I think was posted by someone else earlier: it would be extra cool to have a shutter release/start/stop button in a place where your hand is already located (e.g., the round joint above the handheld handle) rather than having to take your hand (and maybe eye) away just to start the camera rolling.

Then again, my AC usually does this anyway. But if I go out alone it would be handy.

Is not that ridiculous really, except for maybe the top rods poking you in the eye everytime you try to get close to the viewfinder :-)

OK - simple question - and hopefully one that can be answered...

When is the Matte-box going to be available...?
It's clear now that You are past the "thinking" stage on this issue, but I see no reason why the MB should wait for Scarlet and/or Epic... Red Ones are being sold as we speak (I've just placed an order for 5451) and we need MB's too... I am about to plunge $5K on ARRI MB - but if I knew the RED MB could be out before Christmas - I will wait...

Am I asking too much? I apologize if I do...

You guys/gals rock!!!

Any chance of a fixed lens Scarlet render?
I bet I'm not the only one dying to see it, I guess you haven't quite finished it yet though...

You're not alone. I've been thinking about the 2/3" models almost exclusively. Small, lightweight, easy to hold in tight quarters . . . . Oh, and probably the only ones I can afford.
