  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

More HDRx...

Awesome shot! Would've never been possible with ANY other camera out there :)

Any chance of getting a TIFF/DPX/etc still for playing around with the DR other that a JPEG? :blush5:

I realize I should be posting this elsewhere (in the Scarlet area, say), but for a little perspective vis-à-vis the new pricing on the Scarlet, look at comparative pricing below for cameras with -

1) essentially smaller sensors
2) no RAW capture
3) certainly no HDRx™™

Canon XH-G1s $6,099.99
Canon XL-H1s (PAL) $8,999.00
JVC GY-HD250U1/3” CCD (16x Fujinon lens)
$5,995.00
Sony PMW-EX1R 1/2” sensor $6,299.00
Sony DSR-400L 2/3-Inch(2.5-Inch Color LCD Screen and 17x IF Lens) $11,992.00

and...
no 3k
no redcode
no 150fps
and so on...

Any Chance of playing with an R3D?

I know I know, pushing my luck... but i am just blown away by this.

Jim, I really have to say hats off to you for this one. I like many have been one of the people watching and waiting for the scarlet. I can say i was impatient, and i just wanted it now. But I can see now what you are doing is far more important than selling a camera, you are revolutionizing the way they are shot, and that is quite commendable.

After seeing the clip in motion: wow... I've seen the other HDRx clips but this on really makes it sink in.

I'm a colorist, and especially on documentary work (typically shot on XDCAM or DSLRs these days...) this would make a huge difference. Without control over lighting and no option to reshoot this will make things so much more flexible.

That's why it's especially good to see HDRx ported to Scarlet. A lot of interesting documentaries won't shoot on Red One or Epic, but I'm sure would adopt Scarlet. Good call, Jim.

Looks really nice :-) Very Kodak EXR like.

What about exposure tools, have your teem been thinking about how to represent the normal image and the extension in falsecolor or the histogram.?

We have been thinking about everything! :-)

I have been on the phone with Graeme about all the possibilities. Both of us, plus Jarred and Deanan, know exactly how big a breakthrough this is. Graeme is working 24/7 to give us the best post tools possible. The Foundry is also involved. Big stuff.

As I've said before, most of those bitching right now and threatening to storm off and buy [whatever] instead will come crawling back. Where the hell else are they going to go to get a camera that does this!?

Wow, even untreated it also looks "filmic" not to mention the
obvious range. This is exciting!

Gotta love the Epic clips ... keep em' coming :-)

Anthony

P.S. To the dude who posted the competitive priced products
relative to the Scarlet -- THANK YOU! Those who complain
about the pricing really don't know how eff'd up the the price
versus specs are on other cameras in its class.

Jim,

Can you tell us more about the motion rendering? Really amazing.

Bob Torrance

Also gotta say that this board is ROCKING lately! So much fun
and cool things happening. Whether it's Epic or Scarlet, I can't
wait to officially jump aboard this amazing movement. :hat:

No one knows how much light there was in the barn... except Pete, Mick and I.

I have posted a lot and people can decide whether or not to believe me, but there was NO light in that barn. I am so blown away that I can hardly stand it. I'm so excited that I can't sleep. You will see for yourself soon.

Jim

Would it be possible to post 'the opposite' image to give some perspective as to how light/dark it was?

Jim, I was wrong, this is amazing and totally worth the extra $1000 on the fixed.
I still can't afford it but I'm going to anyway.

Since most of us are used to shooting with less than 10 stops it is hard to relate to 18 stops in ... feeling. I don't know how to explain but I feel a scene within context to the camera I know.

I think that if you have time it would really have impact on us all if you were to show a shot comparing HDRx +4 vs. R1MX(13 stops?) vs. 5DM2 video
