I've ordered the Tokina expander which should arrive later this week.
In the meantime, I put up the 24-290 with a 1.4 extender. It covers 7.5KHD (which works for what I need) with just the smallest hint of a vignette at 24mm, only focused on infinity, less then 10' is clean. That with a one stop hit in light, but none with DOF, being the extender behaves as if the lens is at 2.8. Just looking at a monitor, image looks great.
I'm curious to see how the expander works being 1.3 stops of light loss. I assume the DOF would be the same relative to 2.8, same as the extender.
I'll get to testing side by side when I get my hands on the expander.
I guess eventually I'll need to have the files pixel peeped to see which is the better option. Although I'm not set up for that evaluation with my limited resources and knowledge when it comes to post stuff.
Hi Steve,
did you get to test your 24-290 with the Tokina 1.6 Expander please?
Thanks, Stu.
