  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Monstro Upgrade Question Still Open

$23250 ($17500 + $5750) ?

Or only the initial $17500 ?

RED has never offered full trade in value for the M-X sensor. If you upgrade your RED ONE to the M-X sensor ($5700) and then trade it in for Epic X, you get $1500 back making the sensor upgrade only cost you $4500. I don't see how that applies to Monstro since it's not the same sensor.

RED1 should be upgraded with Monstro sensor without any problem,

as it was promised long ago to us early R1 adopters.

I might be wrong but I seem to remember that the "extra refund" for an M-X upgraded R1 only applies when going for stages 1 or 2, i.e. when you keep the camera. When going stage 3 (trading in your beloved camera), you get a generous 17.500 credit regardless of which sensor you have.

Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, Martin you are correct.

Yet another bonus for those who keep their Red One. It is pretty obvious that is what Red wants us to do. I am more than happy to oblige.

:-)

Great Jim! That's amazing.

P.S. 1 - We can still upgrade our REDs to the M-X sensor, right?

P.S. 2 - By the way, Stephen Williams just lost a bet I believe...

Which bet was that? :bigear:

Just so all is clear, you cannot upgrade hardware on R1 to have Monstro sensor installed there.
You can use R1 as a credit (trade in value) towards the purchase of EPIC with Monstro sensor.

The question remains if Jim will be so exuberant to do it as he did it with R1 to EPIC-X upgrade
and will give on EPIC-Monstro upgrade deal the same free accessories as on R1 to EPIC-X upgrade

Wow. So by the time Monstro comes out, someone could potentially trade in a 3-year-old camera at full value. RED's generosity never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for clearing this up, Jim.

Generous, or kind are ways to look at it, still another is simple good business sense. By extending that offer, Jim has insured that your beloved R1 will maintain value after the Epic ships. Obsolesence is thus obsolete. ;-)

Haha, please elaborate.

Since nobody had the balls to put any money on the table, I can't have lost.

Edit, Tom, do you by any chance want to increase your bet with me? With Elexa & Epic you must be in with a chance!

Trade-in is towards MONSTRO BRAIN ONLY.

STILL have to buy all the modules. SEPARATELY.
