  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hey all don't know if any of you have had to match a different camera companies camera to Monstro to compliment the rest of the project in anamorphic but here is my Question.
I haven't confirmed but I think the company has been using a Arri Ameria to shoot the bulk of their project and now they would like me to shoot some locations, B roll and specialized stuff. Time Laps, slow mo and mixed frame to fill in some parts.
Here is what they are in need to deliver: "We are delivering in 2:39:1 and are intending to deliver in UHD; so ideally we should aim to shoot 3840x1607 or 4096x1716. We could discuss codecs further if it looks like the RED camera doesn't have an exact match.

Anyone have a suggestion as to what format on the Monstro would best match this and still hold a quality image??? I think they are using Kowa lenses...

I suggested 5K 2:40.1 2x 4.3 and then down razing to the 3840x1607 or am i just lost at this point.

My apologies upfront as I don't work in the anamorphic world very much and its usually generated from my camera not trying to match some other cameras version of anamorphic 2:39.1

I found these resolutions at PHFX.com from Phil that give you an 2.40:1 aspect with a 2X Anamorphic lens.

But always, try shoot at the highest resolution the camera and lens can give. If shooting anamorphic that is usually 7k ana or 6k ana.

So important, Don't go by their resolution requests, thats delivery formats / something to create in post / or by the DIT.

Red is built to shoot in over resolution and then downsample to wanted resolution.
 
Thank you Bjorn and Rand, I think I have them sorted now. And thanks for the PHFX link Rand. I looked on his site but could seem to find this so a big help for me and helping educating others..
By all means Bjorn I want to shoot as high a rez as possible. They can down rez in post and get the best possible IQ.
I did a new test this morning using the 6.5 setting instead of the 4.5 setting and they are happy now. I also found out that they have used a few different camera models on this project so it will be interesting to hear how the RED footage stacks up. My bet is after they use it they will be much happier to use RED in the future.
This is a lengthy documentary so I want to keep them happy just because Im sure Ill be supplying other elements for this and other projects.

Any info or advice on using the Kowa lenses Ill take also as it seems those will be the lenses we will use on this project.
