I have a big job coming up this week with a monochrome. This will be my first time with this camera. We are trying to figure out a good way for post to edit this footage since we can't use our rockets. Has anyone got experience with the proxy module attached to the monochrome?

It should work as it takes the signal from the SDI out. Have not used any of the two so do not take my word for it...

Is the proxy module out yet? Looks like it's still listed as "coming soon" on RED.com:

If you need a good proxy recorder in the meantime, maybe consider some of the 3rd party solutions, like the Pix 240, etc

Yes strongly recommend the pix 240. It's also nicer since you can keep it of camera (on long BNC). The auto record works great and if you run it with screen info in frame you a really duble secure that you later can conform you r3d edit.

For monochrome I just use redcine-x to a 2k dpx 10 bit, it really fly's on my computers(not sure why it goes so quickly). To avoid dynamic range issues I make sure the histogram in redcinex is fully filled before I send it to the proxy (i use all 10 bits of the dynamic range of dpx). I have had problems with proxy's that are 8 bit(since the monochrome only has 256 shades with 8 bit (not 256x256x256 like you'd get with color) so I'd at least run/save to r3d with a high compression redcode(since no-debayer at 5k, if your going for a 1080p proxy you can totally crank up the r3d compression and not see any difference) if I was going to use a pix as a primary recorder.
