  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi bob, does anything get exported at all? What version of OSX are you on? Is Red Alert working properly on that computer? Does Redline work?

Is it just me, but shouldn't the OUT point of the source be 17:57:02:01? to match what is on the record side?

Michael

I tried conforming using Avid MC 3.0 EDL (both CMX 3600 & Red 16) in Monkey Extractor and it fails to recognize. Our R3D footage are based on Time of the Day.
Any idea why it fails?

The latest version supports edgecode or time of day, has this solved the problem?

Thank You Nigel...very good work
KEEP IT UP DUDE:biggrin:

Hi Nigel,

Yes red alert works fine, and crimson, i am on OSX 10.5.4. Nothin at all gets exported. I have all the monkey edls in the export folder but no footage.

Hi Bob, if you've got it working fine on the laptop, and it's not working on the desktop then there would seem to be a problem with your combination of OS / hardware. Craig is releasing new versions every couple of days, but email him your specs and problem to craig@rubbermonkey.co.nz. I'm sure we can get to the bottom of it.

Thanks Nigel,

I purchased the full version of Monkey tonight, it's a great tool. I will keep working with it, any problems i am having are down to where i dump the footage, and how many levels down Monkey has to search, from what i can tell. From the work you guys have put in already i know this is going to be a must have for all RED users. Congrats.

If you haven't got it yet...buy it...it's a no brainer for the money.

Hi Bob,

You have a reel called TEST? I think you should change that to be A074 and try it. Did you hand modify the EDL? Monkey will be looking for a reel called TEST from what I can see

Yes, that's exactly it!! cheers....

But where do I do the 1st light

But where do I do the 1st light

From what I se using monkey, does not give me the opertunity to do a 1st light anymore.... is this so, am I missing something?

Monkey Extract will read RSX so yes, if you want to first light a clip you can do it and monkey will render with those looks into the DPX files.

Hi helgetjelta, no features have been removed, what were you doing previously, and what are you doing now?

Avid CMX3600 EDL not working

Avid CMX3600 EDL not working

Nigel,

Avid CMX3600 EDL not working for me. Even Avid AAF imported to FCP which inturn generates CMX3600 EDL from FCP not working with Monkey Extract.

Attached Both EDLs and Monkey database file for your reference.

Where are those reel ID's coming from? I se 53, 97, etc. Avid will track short, long or whatever file name in the Tape, Camroll, or Labroll columns of the bin, and any one of them can be used as source when creating the EDL.

Can you attached your original bin with the sequence?

Michael

Michael,

Attached Avid Bin and Avid ALE generated from Metacheater used to import Medium proxy files to 1080p24 DnXHD36 format.

I would start the MetaCheater process off differently if you are going to go the Monkey route for DPX extraction. Use the REEL portion in MetaCheater (A001) for TAPE. I will contact Craig at Monkey about the 16Char EDL template that hacks the template to allow the full 16 characters.

In the meantime, I entered the short filename into the Labroll column and created a CMX3600 EDL from there. I have reattached your project with the EDL and the modified bin.

Michael

Ok. The EDL looks like this:

001 C002 V C 00:00:00:00 00:00:00:00 01:00:00:00 01:00:05:16

The problem is that the red and blue timecodes should be the in an out point of the clip. They are both zero, and are zero for every cut of the EDL.

Monkey Extract (and most grading software) will be looking for footage from reel C002 between timecode 00:00:00:00 and 00:00:00:00 and there's nothing to find.

I think what has happened is that you have imported the Quicktimes to Avid directly, and Avid doesn't read Quicktime's timecode. So each clip has a timecode of zero. There are two ways around this.

Use metacheater or Red Rushes to create an ALE file, and use this to import Quicktimes. That's how to get footage with timecode embedded into an Avid.

Because you've probably already made you cut, you might have to manually go into each clip in avid, and enter a start timecode into it.

Michael, I'm no expert on Avids, would using an ALE now to bring the same footage in update the existing footage? If they are treated as differrent clips, at the very least it would let him know what the timecodes should have been.

Nigel,

Please Check the attached EDL taken from both Avid as well as FCP via Automatic Duck Pro Import and Monkey Database file.

The previous one sent was corrected and sent by Michael for assigning Tape Name as Reel ID.
