  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Monkey Extract - quickly render RED footage for grading, using an EDL

Nigel,

Please Check the attached EDL taken from both Avid as well as FCP via Automatic Duck Pro Import and Monkey Database file.

The previous one sent was corrected and sent by Michael for assigning Tape Name as Reel ID.

Ok, the FCP one looks like:
005 AX V C 20:23:48:23 20:23:54:12 01:00:25:09 01:00:30:22
* FROM CLIP NAME: D002_C002_09055G_M.MOV

There's no reel name in it, it should be D002, so coming out of final cut it should have looked like:
005 D002C002 AX V C 20:23:48:23 20:23:54:12 01:00:25:09 01:00:30:22

If you look in the Final Cut window at all the footage, right click the columns and show the reel column (can't remember exactly what it's called). You can then type the first 4 characters of the reel into the column for each clip (such as D002) and try exporting again.

By the middle or of this week (~9/24/08) the avid.com/red page will go live with step by step guide and a host of XSLT files to do a lot of this output. There is an XSL that allows a long file name in the TAPE column to be exported as CMX with:

the full 16: A001_C001_0921QD
Truncated 8: A001C001
Or just reel: A001

In the zip file I attached back in my previous posting, I put the shortened file names in both the Labroll and Camroll so that an EDL could be generated on either one directly via EDL Manager as per the above. The quickest way for a project already in progress is to sort by file name then enter the short (Reel) into either one of those columns via the muli-clip copy/paste entering the first four characters then entering. See a quick youtube I did where this method is included:
