What are y'all planning for monitors & mounting? The SmallHD SDI's seem to be favoured. What will you use to mount it to your Komodo?

I am still waiting to find out. It really depends if USB-C and or WiFi monitoring will be possible. (If I can use my iPad mini I will.)

Certainly going to be a bit of "choose your own adventure" when it comes to monitoring with Komodo. There's dirt cheap SDI screens out there at various quality levels. Lightest weight, reliable, bright, and cheap is probably in the realm of <$300 smallHD Focus.

When it comes to wanting more features out of display like higher resolution, HDR, recording, so and so forth the price goes up. BMD screen is pretty rad, though more moolah and a bit heavier.

The SmallHD Focus monitors are beautiful, and compact. And inexpensive -- I got one of the 5 inch OLED models, which are still (I think) on sale for $299.

I am eyeing those Black Magic Video Assists as well for later on down the road though. :)

I asked this question and was told unofficially there’s no reason to think the Cine 7 wouldn’t work, but no confirmation as yet.

I am planning on using my Shinobi SDI monitor. From what I've read, this should work pretty well. And I like the weight of it. Just need to see if I can find a way to tap into an alternate power source so I'm not carrying 3 batteries around.

I want to see what the USB-C phone interface does. We already know that there won’t be WiFi monitoring, just control.
Android app is coming first thanks to the Hydrogen program. Android tablets should work with that as well as phones.
When the IOS app drops iPads may be a viable option.

Sony has some appealing high end phone options.
Xperia pro ticks all the boxes Hydrogen should have. IP68 weather proofing, 21:9 4k HDR OLED display, SDXC external storage, and a micro HDMI video INPUT!

Thanks for the link, David. If 4k monitoring is needed but not provided through the CSI+Ethernet connector (who knows?),
there would still be the option of feeding the 12g SDI signal via SDI-HDMI converter into this phone.

I know the Komodo won't be compatible with DSMC2 RED Monitors, but is there any chance RED will develop a cable-free monitor specifically for the Komodo?

It's already built in (on top of the camera). :ciappa:
Joking aside, I doubt that RED would have the intention to make a new monitor for Komodo only. That's why they came up with the new interface which pretends to be the smartphone's cam. A clever solution TBH since everybody already has a smartphone and it's thin/small, lightweight, has a bright display, I guess it's more power saving than a RED Monitor and it already has its battery built in. If DSMC3 will have the same interface, we could assume to use the DSMC3 monitors with Komodo, too, if it doesn't draw too much amps; or to use our smartphones with DSMC3 cameras as well. (don't know if both options would work - depends which kinds of signals the DSMC3 monitors could process)

After the release of the DSMC2 7" ultra-bright monitor, I was wondering if RED's about to release a 5" to 5.5" ultra-bright version, too. (I was thinking about buying a Dragon-X, but apart from of other boxes to check off, the 7" UB was too big (1"frame around the screen?!) and heavy (not to mention the price tag), while the 4.5" was rather too small and had not enough nits - compared to thirdparty monitors at that time)
The answer was: Not before DSMC3.

It's all speculation, as most of the Komodo Forum, but I wouldn't have too high hopes for a RED Komodo Monitor.

The 1" frame around the screen is for passive heat reduction I believe and it does make a little sense from a protective standpoint in case you would slam the edge of your monitor into something which I have done before. I agree though.... the 7" ultra bright is too big for a lot of the work I do (despite it's nicer picture) and my 4.7" is a hair on the small side for pulling focus as a single op but I love the form factor and with a wooden camera tool-less lcd/evf adapter it makes it plug and play like the original DSCM2 7". A 5-5.5" monitor with edge to edge screen and +/-1500 nits would be awesome. I am really sad Komodo won't accept DSCM2 accessories as I thought the 4.7" would have been nice on top of Komodo and I already own one, but I guess the screen already built into Komodo isn't far off from the size of the 4.7" screen. I still hope for more DSCM2 integration though but I doubt it will happen. I have never been a fan of atomos or small hd as I don't like clunky solutions that require extra batteries or wires and I love a streamlined rig form factor. Ever since I moved away from Sony Cameras (FS5/FS7) a few years back and got my first RED I never really planned on going back to having monitor arms, cables, and stuff, literally hanging off my camera. I can literally fold the monitor down on my Gemini, wrap it in a towel, and throw it in a small backpack with a few gold mounts and 1-2 small lenses and go out for a day on a mountain in the backcountry. A RED camera stripped down for handheld/travel is a thing of seamless beauty.

I bought a Feelworld Lut 7s, a cheap monitor with excellent image quality, and 2000 nits. It has both HDMI as well as SDI in and outputs. The only downside is that it becomes a bit bulky when two batteries are attached on the rear side.
At the moment I use it alongside the RED monitor on my Epic, enabling me to see the image clearly even in bright sunlight.

I think the major issue with using a high end phone like the Xperia for a monitor will be adequate brightness in full sun.
But phones are intended as the replacement for DSMC2 touchscreen control monitors as the basic camera interface.

What about Komodo's 4K SDI Output and 3G SDI monitors - can you throttle SDI output resolution of the Komodo to 1080p?

Wondering because the SmallHD Focus SDI has 3G/HD-SDI only (for a 1280x720p panel), same with the Atomos Shinobi and actually most - even higher end - monitors (that aren't monitor/recorders) only offer 3G/HD-SDI. Transvideo Starlite HD, TVLogic VFM-055A & F-5A - 3G SDI only?
