  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Monitoring via DeckLink and HDLink using EIZO monitors

Just wanted to throw in there that I have indeed gotten this style of workflow up and running with an HP Dreamcolor. Computer monitors are certainly not the right move for this kind of signal work but since figuring it out, I've been happy with the results.

I set it up like this:

Resolve > Decklink 3D Extreme > HDSDI Cable > HDLINK DisplayPort 3D > DisplayPort Cable > HP Dreamcolor

I see your issues coming from any number of places in the chain - This kind of thing is a mess! I wish you the best...

Michael, u're getting and displaying 10-bit via DP on the HP DC ?

- M

That was my workflow before, but with HD-SDI plus DP/HDMI converter at the end for monitor and projector simultaneously, and never had a problem. Ten (10) bit all the way for both devices.

Note: BMD sends both YUV and RGB signals, so no matter what device you use, they can use the signal they can decode. Just waiting for a new HDLink from BMD and will report.

Yes. You can really tell the difference between 8 & 10 bit too! I also tried using the HDMI out of the Decklink to the Dreamcolor but that sucks. The HDMI is 8 Bit and the Dreamcolor "Engine" that allows for color space selection is disabled on the HDMI input - yes, I'm being serious. That "Feature" made it past the final product design QC! The whole system is riddled with caveats but it is working - although ONLY in this configuration.

I have relegated the DC to a near set dalies cart and it works well. The panel itself is frickin' beautiful but the steps to get a picture on it are deplorable! I'm sure the OP's monitor will have its own set of challenges, particularly because it isn't 1920x1080 native. I would have a hard time trusting the scalers inside to not fuzzy up the image in a final color correct output environment.

The 8 vs 10 bit difference: it is extremely evident. In projectors, 8 bit it is about 25% less sharp; it feels like you are watching a DVD in a 1080P device. In monitors, the most evident difference is the banding/grading, aside that it fills soft.

That at is why you should NOT use the HDMI output that DeckLink offers since it is only 8 bit RGB/YUV.

Hey Luis, did you get your new HDlink? Did you ever get your set up to work? I'm also looking at getting an Eizo monitor to use with Resolve.

Luis, can you update the thread with your findings? At least out of courtesy to those who tried to help you?

Hello everyone,

Sorry I have not updated my findings. Will do it soon. I am recovering from a back lesion.

Thanks for your patience,

Luis,

let me know what your findings were with the Eizo & HDLink (issues/contamination/10-bit workflow) and also your calibration results...

I ran a full set of tests and evaluations on my CG275W, including calibrations done via ColorNavigator, direct Lightspace 3D LUT's and a hybrid of ColorNavigator (pre-cal setup) + Lightspace 3D LUT (doing a LUT merge)...

wanna compare what you got...

Thanks.

- Mike

A detailed, in-depth, step-by-step display calibration guide and workflow for calibrating the Eizo CG275W has been posted on DisplayCalibrationTools - everything you need to know is in there:
