  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Monitor

I am looking into monitors (not onboard) for shoots and was wondering what most people would recommend?

I like the TV Logic monitors.

Panasonics are nice, and then you have the heavy hitters like Cinetal, ecinema, Astro. The Carrion monitor is nice as well, although small and hard to get.

What size are you looking for and any specific features you have to have?

Flanders Scientific Monitors

Flanders Scientific Monitors

Has anyone used the Flanders Scientific monitors? Looking into there 17" which is about $500 cheaper than the Panasonic.

I use a Pana 1700 and a Nebtek HDS 70 (7"). They're both good monitors. The Neb is great as a director's monitor on "run/gun" exterior stuff. Has SDI loop through and is not as big / bulky as Panny 900. Much brighter than a Panny 80. The BTH 1700 has been incredibly reliable never has been in the shop once in three years. Nebtek has gone in twice for electronic glitches but was turned over very fast. Excellent customer service. They also installed False Color mode on it for free.

Tim, Carrion?

Kidding :-)

The Panasonic 17" [1760] is the de-facto on set monitor.

The TV Logic monitors have impressive features, but I find that they read too much into the RED's green/magenta spike on the HD-SDI outputs to be of much use on set.

Brook - given that TV Logic can fully calibrate their whole line, is it possible those monitors were the stock configuration?

What is a good method for calibrating them to RED's specific color?
