  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Module Ship Dates....

What Greg said. All I know is if the money is in my RED account instead of my bank account then that's a PP&E expense that comes off my bottom line, which means I'm not paying taxes on it. Depreciation expense would be separate from that.

Yeah, what Greg said.

Edit: Also what Jarred said :)

Not to be argumentative, or get bogged down in the tax discussion, but I would get straight on this before you make too many assumptions. No matter where the money is, the tax code gives you certain limited options, expensing and depreciation are not an additive function for this type of equipment (i.e you don't get to do both). Buying camera equipment with a multi-year life is not an "expense" like renting a light kit. Sometimes assets (like a camera or modules) can be treated with accelerated depreciation, effectively "expensing" them in a particular period, but it is still an issue of placing it in service.

OK - so I am not an accountant but I'd join the chorus of those suggesting you confer with one when developing your strategy along these lines. :thumbup1:

Now if they'd just get all this stuff in the store in plenty of time to put it in service this year... :smile5:

This is why rather than being an accountant I decided to make pretty pretty pictures for a living :)

I'm more concerned about the Pro REDMOTE. It is my understanding that that's the only real way us Canon users will be able to effectively control our lenses.

Any word when that will ship?

Stephen

Yeah, that's the most important thing to me as well. Would be nice to hear about the progress in this regard.
Come on Jarred, give us a warm fuzzy feeling about the Redmote Pro.

Thanks man

Canon Mount only controlled by RedMote Pro...?...can anyone explain what has been said on this topic? seems odd

Focus also works without the REDMOTE PRO. What the REDMOTE PRO does seem to give us is a nice follow-focus-style knob to turn. It has also been said that the REDMOTE PRO has undergone some changes and isn't the same as what was shown long ago in those old concept renders.

You can assign the electronic functions of the lenses to the programmable user controls on the camera brain or side handle. There's dials, a rocker switch, etc.. You can use the rocker for both focus and zoom, using a user button to toggle functionality if you want. There is (or will be) touch focus functionality with the electronic lenses and the touch LCD monitors.

REDMOTE PRO will probably be a nice addition to the kit, whenever it finally arrives. But it's hardly necessary to make use of the Canon mount or lenses.

You don't need a REDMOTE pro or even a REDMOTE to control the Canon Mount.. the touchscreen, side handle, etc. will work just fine. The only thing the REDMOTE pro gives you is a standard sized focus knob.

REDMOTE PRO has evolved into something pretty spectacular.. and will take some time to complete. There is no expected completion or shipping date, so we would just be making it up if we told you one :)

bit of a naive noob question but as I understand it, only an electronic lens (i.e canon) can be focused with a touchscreen, REDmote etc, none of the existing RED primes or Zooms can do this, they can only ever be focused manually, (either by hand or with a expensive wireless motorized focus control), and this is why we are waiting eagerly for news of the RED electronic lenses, correct?

Correct Neil, you can't have motorized focus without a motor :) heh heh heh.

Cheers Jarred, So can you say if RED planning to release a wirelessly controlled motor attachment for existing primes, zooms or basically go straight to electronic lens?

Correct Neil, you can't have motorized focus without a motor :) heh heh heh.

Did the mini primes just turn into RED electronic compact primes in one ---- heh heh heh?

Hmmm..... just feeding the speculation here on REDuser...... :)

David

I'm currently only in market range of a scarlet anyway, so probably won't have to worry about a focus puller, but it has crossed my mind with so many second hand RED Ones very likely to come up for sale during stage 3

Battery plates are no longer sold separately.

Sorry, a little confused here. My intention is to hang a V-mount on the back of my clutch for balance purposes. The Backpack Quickplate says it needs a backpack plate, which is not needed in the clutch system. Any Red options (like a quickplate that is not married to the backpack system) , or will this be a third party thing?
