  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Misc. Update...

I had a feeling that the competition at NAB was not only going to be a showcase of the Red community, but a showcase for RedRay and Red Projector as well. Now a home theater can be a REAL theater! I crossed the line at NAB 2007 and am in for the long haul...

Thanks for not leaving our Red Ones behind. Looking forward to the "grading suite"

As a total outsider to the industry, I can say I've been watching the Red Projector news with baited breath, hoping it would be announced soon. At 10k, it will very much be a part of my home theater, and I can't wait to see it in action. Almost worth buying a ticket to Vegas to see it in action.

"Target price for home and grading suite is $10K."

Does this price include the redray as well as the projector?

I ask because VHS won by flooding the market with the media and getting the adult entertainment industry to accept VHS.
I say flood the market with this at low cost and license the codec to the studio's and take a % of profit. Could be what Itunes did for the music industry

I'm in! Where do I sign-up?

All that research and tech comes at a price ... It's still a steal for what it will be I'm sure of it.

Nice update. I always get mixed emotions from these announcements though. Imagining the image quality that Team RED is working to bring about is actually a bit scary, in a 'hold on, the landscapes about to change, this is gonna be good, but some people ain't gonna like this', kind of way. I see it as RED giving people the opportunity to make their dreams come true, but which also means challenging them to be brave enough to take that opportunity and live up to their potential.

Then there's the old anger and resentment about how there's been, and still is, so much resistance to these kinds of developments, from others who could help speed up the rate of development and adoption of more advanced technologies but have chosen not to.

There's even that thing where you just know every man and his dog is going to finally 'get it' and end up using some kind of RED technology or another, but hardly any of them will know what it was like here and now, or before, waiting for the wave to break, and maybe even helping in some way to make it happen.

Anyway...

Something I'd like to see as a result of more affordable high-quality image-making and projection, is a re-birth of local cinema's. And by local cinema's I mean smaller independently owned establishments, but also movies shown in town halls or anywhere people are willing to gather to watch something of a quality they've never seen before. And by movies I don't mean just huge budget productions, or huge budget productions at all. It may sound ridiculous to some, but there could be a whole movement back to travelling picture shows. Taking a projector out to places that would have no other way of seeing such a thing. Showing movies from all over the world, or even ones made locally, maybe even just for that purpose, with a projector capable of outputting an image of a kind they won't see elsewhere. I guess I'm talking about recapturing the magic of cinema. And maybe it's just me being nostalgic, but I'd rather experience that in a community hall with a bunch of my fellow townspeople out in the sticks than in some overpriced suburban megaplex.

In any case, I'm hoping that's what a higher quality and more affordable image-capturing and projecting system can help bring about. But maybe no technology can bring that back, I don't know. Maybe that sense of wonder and ability to immerse oneself in the big screen just isn't possible anymore and people in general have moved on. I guess we'll find out though, because if 40 feet or more of moving 3D Cibachrome quality imagery can't do it I doubt anything can. And of course, if the image-quality is up to it but the story-telling isn't, then...not going there.

Sorry for the rambling, can't blame a guy for dreaming when he should be sleeping :) Thanks for the news, glad to hear it's all rolling along.

HD-DVD was cheaper, often better and had the support of the Porn industry. Blu-Ray won thanks to mass bribery.

The modern "Cheap" player is the Netflix App built into your TV. You can't beat streaming on price. Redray is going to be inevitably a premium product.

Yeah...all the way. Side by side.
See you in Vegas Mr. J
Cheers from Brazil

Just for the record, which I'm sure both you and any one else knows, that currently the only thing you get for 10k is a 3D capable 1080p projector,
so yeah even at 2k, but LASER and with the quality talked by Jim, oh uyeah definitely a good deal even for home, for those that can afford one of course.

But I sure am hopping 4k/4k, at list on the Commercial one, and I don't care to pay, I'll pay... ;)

Ketch, this is exactly what I meant ;)

If I had the money I wouldn't care either. It would be red all the way.

Actually you are very wrong about this. Supposadly Toshiba gave Paramount 50 million to adopt HD-dvd. So Paramount accepted. But in the end Blu-ray won because of the Playstation 3.
