I understand the idea behind the early adopters being first in line for new and backordered products, but I recently ordered my first camera package that included a Pro LCD as the only viewing mechanism. I am now at the back of the line for backorder fulfillment and my new camera is unusable until I get the LCD.

It seems to me that Red should get new customers up and running first, then the early adopters next, and the recent buyers at the tail end. It doesn't effect me right now as I am busy on a project and also waiting on a Birger mount, but I think it could be an initial negative experience for some. (No idea how often it happens BTW).

why didnt you order the small one if you need it right now?

the early adoptor policy has pro and cons.

i love and hate this system at the same time :)

Because the smaller LCD does not fit my needs, and as my post states I don't 'need it right now'. (Did you even read my post?)

My post states that I believe the new customers should be given first preference in getting their system up and running. Yes it takes a bit of thought on Red's part to determine what that means as there are many combinations that constitute a running system.

It simply does not seem right to me that Red will favor an early adopter who has a camera up and running while putting a new customer at the end of the list with a rig that is not complete. I am more than willing to wait a few weeks, but I'll be rather put out if I do not get one of the first batch of Pro LCDs because early adopters are favored over me.

Do you really feel this policy is truly unfair or is it just cause you aren't getting what you want right now? Do you think if I ordered my Pro LCD that it would be "fair" that you got your first just cause your a "new" customer? Your argument doesn't hold much water at least not with those of us that have cameras before you. Trust me, anyone who ordered a RED camera has had to wait on products whether they were first or last in line. Just the way it goes.

There was 18 months between our deposit on #242 and delivery. Even then, we had to wait on drive cables, and various other parts.

Everybody waits. I'm sorry, but the most fair way to deliver is in order of... ordering.

I understand the thrust of your argument; that it's wise to get people complete kits, however given there's a (presumably) continuous stream of new camera buyers current owners would be waiting a long time before seeing any backordered parts.

the earliest of adopters did not have the luxury of knowing that there would even be a product. i waited 29 months for my pro monitor, and i was one of the first people to put my money down on april 14th, 2006 and did not get our camera until 17 months later. if you need to shoot now, go out and buy a $150.00 dvi monitor and a $20.00 hdmi to dvi adapter, that will get you up and running.

good luck

I concur with Kosmos. There are ways to get up and running without the pro-monitor and his suggestion is a good one and one I've used. And frankly many of us (both early and late adopters) have had to wait on what "suited our needs" -- and many are still waiting. Red has more than enough on its plate without complicating what's a pretty clear and pretty fair (nothing's perfect) policy that we are all aware of going in.

But good luck to all in line on the availability of the pro monitor real soon.

Bob, Define new customer?

If someone ordered a LCD pro one, two, or three months before you and still hasnt got his cam up and running... should RED serve the customers that came last?

Im still waiting on my EVF, buy I understand that there are 4387 customers that probably bought one, and are receiving it on limited supply or backordered items. Which is what we signed for in the firsth place.
For me, a negative experience would be for people who are waitning for a couple of months for a certain item to get skipped just because.

If there`s one thing I really admire about the REDco, is how serioursly they apply they sense of justice and respect for the customer, starting from customer service to even something espectacular like the upgrade paths for red owners; that is what I really call devotion for customer service.

Patience is really well paid for when you wait for a Red Product,
delivery dates are subject to change, count on it and you wount be dissapointed.

It simply does not seem right to me that Red will favor an early adopter who has a camera up and running while putting a new customer at the end of the list with a rig that is not complete.

Your argument makes the giant assumption that people before you in line actually are up and running in the fashion they want to be. I'm not sure why it would be fair for them to wait even longer so the newcomers get anything they want.

Bob, feel free to e-mail me at travis-at-red-dot-com and we can give you a better approximation as to when you will receive your RED Pro LCD.

Because the smaller LCD does not fit my needs, and as my post states I don't 'need it right now'. (Did you even read my post?)

Bob

bob seriously red never did hide this policy.
i am not sure why you are joining this ride and then start complaining.
you do the best of the situation or you just buy a cam from another brand.
too expensive?
then go in line and wait.

I will say the Nebtek 70HDS is an excellent HD-SDI monitor for same price. Zacuto has them. and a great small company for service...
plus it holds it value... so I would use that until you get the PRO LCD.

remember, its guys like you that are allowing RED to exist at all. If you read these boards... they take care of their customers...

I cant wait to order mine and experience that service myself... meantime... just keep saying to youself... its not a SONY... its not a SONY... :)

Bob, Define new customer?

Someone who has just ordered their first camera package (as in the camera body and all the bits and pieces to make it functional).

I understand that Red is a small company and that they are struggling to get very specialized equipment to market without growing beyond the demand. I am not complaining for myself as I have stated twice that I am currently on a project and also waiting on a Birger mount (which I expect will take a few months anyway). However, I do think it is a bad PR move on Red's part.

I have worked with several specialized companies & cottage industries throughout my life and the focus has always been to get the new customer 'up and running'. Red is the first such company I've encountered that has not done business this way.
