Has anyone ever had a problem with their laptop not mounting mini mags? I've watched this specific reader/mag combo not work on 1 Mac, then work on an iMac, and then not mount to 3 different computers later on in the day. I've also tried another reader on another computer and that didn't work either. The data shows up on the camera so I know it's there but I'm scratching my head on this one. I'm heading back to the computer it worked on shortly and hoping that it still works but this is not at all an ideal situation obviously. Fix? Tried different cables/DC/USB power different readers/computers, basically every troubleshooting trick in the book and no dice...

Help!!!

Not sure if this in any way is related to your problem, but on my PC it matters when I turn on the reader. That is, I can have it plugged in to the computer but if I wait until the computer is turned on before turning on the reader, I am usually successful in seeing the Mini Mag and its contents.

Yosemite 10.10.5

not sure about the other comps as there are not with me. Computer was already on when i plugged in the reader, tried on/off switch reboot as well.

One last suggestion... check to see if the MiniMag is properly seated in the Reader.

Hello -- First, make sure your Mini-Mag Reader's power supply's +5V DC in is delivering at least some power. Is your reader's red led in the front on ?. Even though the power
supply causes the red led to glow, it still may not be delivering enough power to allow the mini-mag to be seen by the Mac. But if the red led is on, it's a very good indicator. And check that the +5V DC plug is all the way in on the reader.

I have an 8-core "Trashcan" & have the mini-mag reader on before I boot the 'Can -- I still will need to power cycle the mini-mag reader a time or two EVERY TIME to get a mini
mag to be seen by the Mac. Every time I insert a mini-mag, I need to power cycle. Wait a few seconds between power cycling & see if this helps. Try a different USB port. If you
have other mini-mags, see if some are more "picky" at being seen by your Mac than others.

They need to power cycle has been going on for a many versions of MacOS. I'm on 10.1.6 now.

Good luck !

My comp is about a year old (pro retina maxed out) , tried on an brand new air, 2013 pro - maybe an important piece of info I left out: the only computer it worked on was a 2011 (or +/- a year) 20' iMac which was NOT USB 3.0. I'm upgrading to El Capitan as we speak and going to see if that solves the problem (Thanks Bob!).

Im glad this is happening to someone else too and they've solved it haha. I'm going to try the power cycle process you've laid out as soon as this upgrade is complete. The reader glows without the mag in it with do power or USB power. As soon as I throw the mag in the light turns off and it doesn't start to read and doesn't dock but when I pull the card out it goes back to a solid glow.

Try an OSX app called MOUNTAIN. it is great for resolving mounting issues on OSX.

Try a PC.

UPDATE - got it working again on the comp it was originally working on (running Yosemite 10.10.5) again no problem. Also tried on another computer here and it works running El Captian 10.11.6. I think it may be a wonky reader that only works on certain OS versions - Im running El Capitan 10.11.4 and no dice on my computer.

I think you may also need redcine installed… At least for the Mac to recognize it. I could be wrong as a primary use a PC workstation. Just a thought.
