  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Here is another from our model shoot

Some ringing round that ear on the right of frame. Is it there unprocessed Mike?

Menus

Menus

Ok maybe not as sexy as some things, but after 10 days of near straight EPIC shoot days - the new menus are the unsung heros of the new EPIC. OMG - what a joy - so much simpler and easier than the RED ONE - which was already MILES ahead of say a Viper or Genesis.

Seriously it is the best UI on a camera ever - in the history of man. Better than a canon/nikon/sony/etc... point blank so easy it takes only a few minutes to feel like you have always known how to use it.

Anyway I complain when things don't work - I think we should praise the team for an outstanding design. i am sure the team is not done - but right now - at this early stage - they are already great.

Glad you like them.. so do we :)

Wow, Mike, I hope you saved some hyperbole for future revisions!

Thanks for the enthusiastic feedback. Glad you're enjoying the UI.

So I wanted to show how well the EPIC is working without HDRx - since that is important
So we have posted a short 96 fps shot to Vimeo.

This was on an 11mm - so the car was closer than it looks
Stu M was the DOP, I was driving.

You have to stop doing this to me mate... Not having an EPIC in my hand right now and watching all these test posts from dudes with EPICS is literally killing me. I just finished a 15 hour day into night into early morning shoot up the main roads of Dubai. I've finally shown the locals here (X Patts) how a RED really works. The are all completely sold now. Before that they all thought it was crap.
I don't think they actually new what RAW was capable of. The post houses here rendered out colour baked AVID files an mastered from that... oooooh.. the pain...

Nobody grades in R3D raw here, but they think they do with color baked DPX's. I'm going to get a resolve set up here or a baselight before I go ...or even a scratch.

Anyway, the hardcore RED haters have been converted. Especially when they see me doing grading onset on my laptop.

Anyway... I have to stop reading this forum, It's starting to depress me. People are get 5 EPICS "M"s at a time and still no call from Kelly.. sniff.

If Jim's promise of us low number dudes getting EPIC X by NAB, then I can live with that :w00t:... but we all know the chances of that are going to be slim. :glare:

Don't give up!

Mike... it really is great for you to dedicate so much time to shooting and posting this stuff. This really is a good example of native DR and nice roll off at 96fps.

We have seen, and are showing anyone who shows up, EPIC stills on a 40' screen. That is bigger than most billboards. The images are incredible. As good as you could ever imagine.

One thing that seems to be in common with every single owner of EPIC is hitting the 96fps button at 5K and smiling. I'm addicted. It is so cool. It is just so unreal.

Jim

what is addicting is taking that footage and dropping it onto your mbpro and playing it a 96fps....now that makes me smile.
