Michael Bravin Charged with email hacking!

I guess that is the *best* case scenario, from what it sounds like... Is a federal case, apparently

It crossed state lines, therefore it's federal. If I read your email in Colorado it would be a felony as well. Federal cases don't mean they're necessarily more serious, just in federal jurisdiction.

But yes, that would be the "best case scenario", although I don't know how much industrial espionage he would be able to carry out from emails with a camera house. RED for instance of course has no resellers so they probably don't tell Band Pro any more than they tell any of their other high-profile clients. I guess I don't see how he could have gotten much value out of reading Band Pro email beyond some disagreement with band pro.

This thread is going to go south very quickly. I suggest we nip it in the butt asap...

Only reply that really matters to me at this point will come from RED and it will be carefully but accurately phrased, covertly bold and subliminally strategic.... but most importantly- factual.

Screw the distractions. Keep rocking our world Jim!

All we know for fact is that Michael Bravin was accused and charged with hacking competitors email accounts during his employment at ARRI,... "
Was it when he was forking at Arri or before moving to Arri, when he was still working at Band Pro?
I guess Arri as it is written at:
http://www.deadline.com/new-york/
"The hacking occurred between December 2009 and June 2010..."

The expression I know is "Nip it in the bud." I think I like yours better. ;-)

The more I know... the more sad I get. "Significant" does not begin to describe the facts. I am heartbroken.

Try not to speculate... the situation will unfold soon enough. I really wish we could turn a blind eye to this... ugh.

Jim

Wow, really sorry Jim. I know you and Jarred both are very trusting, so whatever happened must be painful. Hope it's not too damaging for anyone.

This situation hits me hard on many levels...

One of the companies I held in the highest esteem now has left me shattered.

The magnitude of the betrayal is really hard to comprehend.

The situation forces a reaction that I never would have considered a possibility.

I am devastated. Given the facts, it is not likely I will sleep for a month.

Jim

Please sleep Jim- what's the saying? Plagiarism is the ultimate flattery.

I mean talk about a movie plot - Its like you invented a perpetual energy engine-

2011

High Risk Theft in the ALPS of the FIRST production Epic-M shipped (mark P and family shook up)
Canon and Sony and JVC and others scrambling for 4K releases (after denouncing 4K for years)
Industrial Espionage from an Arri employee.

Yet somehow I think this story will have a very good ending for RED ;)

RED for instance of course has no resellers so they probably don't tell Band Pro any more than they tell any of their other high-profile clients.

Actually Bandpro is one of RED's only resellers, they were selling EPIC packages at NAB, so I would imagine there would be all kinds of confidential strategic information passed between the two owners of the companies including pricing information, release dates, future products. Given that Michael was a senior officer at ARRI, that does not look good no matter how you slice it. And then, you look at the other manufacturers that BandPro represents, that are in competition to ARRI as well, such as SONY and LEICA, and you start to put a picture of one man getting a glimpse into the future of his competition without them knowing it. It pisses me off a little that some people are discounting this, This is a pretty serious matter not only for the film industry, but business as a whole.

I can feel for Jim's disappointment here. We get to actually see him bleed for us here and the relationship he has for his customers is very transparent. To watch a company " cheat " to get information just does not seem right and I am glad that the United States Government has intervened.

I'm sorry to hear this bad news.

They can copy everything, but the heart, the passion, the talent, the "guerrilla" spirit they can never copy. You guys are doing magic, you are a winning team that are successfully taking the "establishment" to the ring. You guys can always "change" whatever you're doing as long as you feel like it. They can't.

i don't know how many people are involved in this, but you guys will pull through.

Jim and RED TEAM

Nobody can imagine how violated you and ALL of RED must feel, but thanks a billion for sharing so much with us everyday.

that speaks volumes to how fucking right you guys are :)

I think its safe to say that we all here on Reduser got your back. You have driven good people to do bad things
by creating a NUCLEAR REACTOR IN A MATCHBOX - life could always be worse.

You are still alive and those reactors are still melting down in japan and they are STILL digging bodies that were buried in the Tsunami

Perspective is important in these times... because this is some seriously fucked up news.

I have a feeling this thing isn't even close to being over :(

I am slowly turning from sad to wicked pissed off. The level of breach is truly unprecedented in this industry. There is a certain expectation of professional (and legal) boundaries. Apparently, these lines have been crossed, with full intent, for an unfair business advantage of epic proportions.

There are several companies involved (victims). We are not alone. I would not expect this situation to disappear into the night. Not on my watch.

Jim

I am very sorry to hear of this very sad news. Jim, strike them back with the products which nobody can build or even imagine to build.

Jim do the right thing and please strike back. Robbing someone else of their hard owned creative work is as bad as it gets. Examples must be set.

This sounds even worse than I imagined. I can only think of 3 people I know that I would not want to have a fist fight with, Jim is on the top of that list.

After spending another 10 minutes on the phone with my attorney... this is just about as bad as anyone could ever imagine.

This is the stuff movies are made of... really hard to believe.
