Has there been any comment from any german camera manufactuerer on this ? perhaps denying any involvment or otherwise or suggesting the blame lies with one individual acting alone ?

It makes me very sad that this has happened.

Yes, they have
The said the same when they were raided, as it related to an employee & not the company.

Interesting that they requested a revision rather than demand one. Sometimes a "demand" is a bluff, but other times it is made from a position of strength.

It's a German company, English is not the first language of many employees & German is a more polite & formal than English.

Kind of a stereotypical generalization, but it's plausible.

I live in a German speaking country, Switzerland, don't underestimate the cultural differences. People work in the same office for 30 years & never call their colleges by their first names.

Yes, that's the way I see it as well. And I am German

This is true in Italian as well, and in many other Languages, few of which I know, in English people say Sir, but other languages don't stop there, the Formal talk goes far more
in to the position of given respect, to an older person, to a Doctor, a Layer, a CEO... etc. it just a bit complicated to explain, but the cultural and language differences are not indifferent,
on the way communication happens.

Here are a few things I don't know, among the many others:
What relevance does this "statement" have to the investigation? Would Arri not say and do all they can to distance themselves from Brevin whether they are innocent or guilty?
Could these activities have been going on at a day to day administration level without the full knowledge of Arri's upper echelon? Is Arri asking themselves that very question?

The question is: where is Jim? I don't think it's an exaggeration to say he was hit pretty hard by this event. He's a straight-shooter and, being focused on a fair head to head,
was likely blindsided by the angle and the place of origin of this maneuver.
He could be zen-ing out or chomping on a cigar in a huddle with his lawyers. I just don't know.

It seems to me like it's pretty easy to kick a guy when he's down, like Bravin is now. This guy has been humiliated, his reputation trashed, he's been fired, and now he is heading to the slammer.

His judgement was obviously terrible -- or worse -- but sometimes when I see instances like this, it makes me think, "There but for the grace of the heavens, go I." Maybe there is more to this story than we know? Perhaps Bravin was feeling desperate somehow in his career? Maybe he had personal issues going on with family or loved ones? Medical issues? Who knows. We have not heard from him.

I'm sure this comment will not be popular, but I feel like we should stop piling on him until more his known.

And like I said, I think a lot of people are forgetting that Michael Bravin didn't design or engineer Alexa, he came in after it was done to sell it. So even if Band had the blueprints to Epic in his inbox it wouldn't have done ARRI any good. And the Alexa was *out* before the first Epic was stolen... so again... wouldn't have done him any good.

I don't feel like an entire company deserves to be dragged through the mud just because one employee read his ex-employer's emails. I'm sure there are a lot of really good engineers at ARRI who don't deserve to have their legitimately excellent work (done completely independent of their marketing director and before he was hired) sullied with crazy conspiracy theories.

Gavin, I know you are trying to be the voice of reason here -- and for the most part, I agree with you -- Arri is definitely innocent until proven otherwise and we shouldn't drag them through the mud until more real facts are apparent. HOWEVER, to say that Epic blueprints or confidential information about Red's cameras or plans "wouldn't have done them any good" because the Alexa was already released? Come on man. So the Alexa is the last camera they will ever release? They are done developing new technology? Didn't they release the Alexa-M at NAB well AFTER the standard Alexa came out?

Yes, we have no factual grounds to condemn Arri or drag them through the mud of speculation, however, it's extremely naive to say that they can't or wouldn't benefit from confidential information about Red's cameras, technology or plans because Bravin came in after the camera was already released.

Do you really believe Jim would be sending blue prints of Epic to anyone by email? Come on we all know email is as confidential as sending a postcard through the post.

Thanks Tom.
I have stayed away from this thread, as i try to do from most carracter-murder threads over here.

We just don't know the circumstances.

I don't know Michael personally and have also not felt betrayed by him personally.
Thus I have little emotional stuff going on on this.

But from what I have had to do with him, he has been a passionate and knowledgeable and ambitious and friendly man.
And he apparently fucked up big time.
He is then probably not the first and not the last with the abovementioned carracteristica doing that.

I can disclose that the title of this thread is a bit misleading, though.

(LOL. Feeling really tough, right now. Tom... You have your M. I am about to get my X, if I don't piss off people by posting this... LOL and shivering... Hahahaha!)

Cheers
G

Of course not Stephen, I was just referencing Gavin's post that said "even if Band had Epic's blueprints in his inbox" .... obviously, I don't think that would be the case. But from Jim's comments it appears that one of his more meaningful email accounts was hacked -- and at least if not by Michael, he stated it's relevant to this case. Clearly someone accessed important/confidential information who wasn't supposed to. What they saw or who accessed it -- well, we have no details and I can't and won't speculate. I'm just going on what was said here.

I totally agree Tom as I alluded to before in comments I posted.

As I mentioned Bravin worked on my orders from Band Pro for many months.

It was a large and complicated purchase for the company I was working for at the time.
The pressure was immense for me to get it all right, and Michael was very helpfull and a
decent sounding board to get the configurations right for our needs.

I guess this is why it is really disappointing, he seemed to have so much on the ball.

Like Tom said it is hard to guess what other outlier events could be motivating this.

I am not trying to speculate in the way some have proposed, for or against all players
involved... I guess I am just talking thru the sort of sad let down on the consequences
of bad choices by somebody who use to have my respect.

sad sad sad.

Thanks Tom.

+1

Thanks for the post, especially Tom and Gun. I don't know Michael, but some very respected people like Lucas, Mitch and others have great things to say about him and I will trust their opinion over negative internet chatter any day.
I'm sure he regrets it, and hope that not too much damage comes from all this and all parties can move forward as effectively and fairly as possible.

Mr. Bravin is paying the price, we can let that go, and sincerely wish him a speedy recovery. But important issues remain about how our friends have been wronged, and to what degree.
There are victims, and they have families and stresses too. When pricked, they also bleed.
