  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MetaFuze v2.1 now available

I've found an issue with color spaces when using MetaFuze 2.1.1 today.

If you first select one or more R3D clips, then change the clip settings to "1080/24p" (8bit), then create (a) transcode(s), the resulting file will be too dark, it will have blacks well below 16.

However, if you keep the default clip setting at "1080/24p 10-bit", then create (a) transcode(s), and set that/those to "1080/24p" (8bit) then the resulting file will be correctly converted to Rec709.

Kind of the same problem here.

What I don't understand is this: when I open a clip in Metafuze it already looks darker and more contrast like it has Redspace applied to gamma (compared the images in Metafuze with the same image in Redcine-x with RedSpace gamma applied).
It goes even darker if I switch it from 1080 10bit to 1080 simple.

BUT...after I view it in Avid (after 1080 10 bit export) it looks ok. By ok I mean it is very similar with a 709 gamma and colorspace image opened in Redcine-X.

So...the metafuze preview window shows my files with a RedSpace gamma applied ? And If I shoot Redspace in camera it will convert them automatically to REC 709 gamma and colorspace after transcode ?

Is it also normal that I cannot get more than 1-2FPS if I press play in the Metafuze window ? Not a big problem just question ( I have it set to run with all the processor cores activated).

Thanks.

Hey another problem,

When I export from Metafuze even in Full premium resolution when I open the MXF in Avid it looks soft and low contrast. Is this just some kind of proxy avid creates to work with and after I render it it will look good ?

What DNxHD resolution are you using?

Michael

185 this is default for 1080 10bit

EDIT: I tried an export and it seems just the preview in Media Composer is showing a lower quality setting. The export looks ok.

Mike, have you tried changing the setting in MC for display quality? It won't change render quality, but it will change how the footage looks in MC's monitor windows.

Finally had some time to do a little further testing.

I’ve installed and tried RedCine-X and can confirm that my Rocket card is functioning. I’ve rolled back driver and firmware to accomodate MetaFuze afterwards.

Here’s the bad news: a 50MB R3D file takes 7 seconds to transcode WITHOUT the Rocket Card installed, and takes 18 seconds to transcode WITH the Rocket Card installed.

In other words: the Rocket support seems to seriously slow down the process. I cannot imagine that this is intentional.

I’m on an XW8600 under Vista Biz 64bit SP1, 2xQC 3.0GHz, 8GB RAM, internal SATA drives. MF 2.1.1.

Did another test with a 1GB R3D file (35 secs clip, 850 frs)
Settings: 2:1 Letterboxed, Transcode set to 8bit 1080/24p DNxHD 36, no burnin.

Without Rocket installed: 1m50s
With Rocket installed: 4m55s
