  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mental....

Don is such a good guy and an amazing DP with more energy and wit than guys 1/3 his age on set.
He seems to be thoroughly enjoying getting realtime feedback from the EPIC's exposure tools and crystal clear monitoring feed.
This may be his first digitally shot movie but you would never know it. The man is an absolute pro. And this is going to be a great little movie as well- raunchy, hilarious, moving, insightful and very very unique ;)

Little late to the thread. I was the digital loader on Mental, and worked closely with Don on the project. He is a fantastic DP, one that I am honoured to have worked with. I just wanted to say a big thank you to Sean R. for his support when he came out and visited us on-set. It was great to meet someone from the RED team, and get some insight into RED themselves. Not to mention just an all-round great guy. Thanks heaps!

Thanks Chris, great working with you! Chris did a great job with the data management plus a lot more than that job would typically require. Good crew of good people all around on this show. I look forward to getting back to Australia sometime soon...

Great to see Don working with RED.

I had the pleasure of doing an interview with him last year about his opinions on HD film making and the transition from film to digital, anyone interested can watch the interview online at www.inside-hd.com.

it was a very inspiring experience to meet him. he is an extremely friendly and down to earth guy and I wish we had more filmmakers like him that are happy to pass on their wisdom and insights so openly.

I kind of thought that modularity IS the point...shoot what you determine you need for your particular project. These are pretty standard cine configurations....

Jim's original dream of a digital format honoring the image quality of film is here - love these reports...they definitely sell me on seeing the movies as well. I love to see the variety of looks coming from the RED cams....
 
I've had the sincere honour of spending a little time with Don, and he is a truly warm, generous and inspirational man. So accomplished. So egoless. I can't think of a better advocate in the world for endorsing RED.

I have a very dear friend of mine that has been a photographer for over 20 years and was very hesitant to do anything with motion. When I brought the Scarlet-X with Canon mount to his office and showed him the live exposure tools, he about fainted. We now have a fun shoot in the works in Antigua, Guatemala :)

Not to bump up an old point, but I'm curious to know why you'd think this, Lee. The EPIC body size maybe a fraction of a Panasonic body size, but then again, the camera body size has always been a small fraction of the crew/equipment footprint on large productions. So why would EPIC change anything on that front? I can totally understand there'll be some crew position changes, and some workflow changes, but not much else. Am I missing something?
