I was looking up the Meizler tonight to show a friend, and it's completely disappeared off the RED website (interestingly, there's a dead link for a "Meizler Module Mini" that Google found).I know around NAB when we were all asking about the new bottom plate, I asked Jarred if the MM would be compatible with the bottom plate, to which he replied, "Everything you know about the module has changed."I'm very curious now to see if they've managed to reduce it in size (hence the "mini"), or if it's being broken up and sold in various parts. We're seeing a TON of new things from RED that appear to be taking over some portions of what the MM could do, so we'll see.Any thoughts/speculations?!

Jarred has already commented on this. You need to do a search..

It's being redesigned from the ground up

Jay

Thanks for that? I was already referring to this (see first post), but haven't seen any news since.

Maybe you can point me in the right direction, though?

Hopefully it's being redesigned ergonomically. If you're going to add modules to the back of the camera, it'd be nice if they were designed to sit on the shoulder without needing all of the clutch type rigs out there. Don't get me wrong, I love the ability to have a tiny little medium format sized set-up if wanted. But if you're adding weight and length anyway, why not make it user/body friendly. I kept my quad battery module solely for the ability to throw it on my shoulder. Which actually works quite well. But if it were designed with just a little more thought of ergonomics it could be great.

I find that one thing often cited in the juvenile Alexa vs. Red wars is that the Alexa is shoulder mount-able while the Red is just a box that needs all kinds of rigs and accessories to shoulder. When in fact the Alexa is just a (heavy) box with a length somewhere in the range of an Epic with a quad or pro I/O attached, and a little cutout for a shoulder (or a little rear protrusion for the back of the shoulder depending on how you look at it). I feel like it would not only satisfy a lot of operator needs, but also quiet at least one aspect of the never ending debate if the rear modules were just designed with this more in mind.

Just my opionon.

There was talk about a "mini" pretty much from the get go. The "Julebox". But not much is known except it exists in some form.

When Google cache fails, archive.org is often your friend:

Yeah it's been missing in the Red Store for quite awhile...incidentally I reserved two about a year ago but haven't heard anything from my Bomb Squad insofar as delivery or any redesign, which I am familiar with based on Ficher et al. testing in the wild.

There's a whole whack of daisy chain elements that almost do what Meizler is supposed to. Would LOVE an update.

There are a lot of dead silent products that dissapear or get no news after raising a lot of expectations. Like the 512GB SSD or the RED projector. It's so a niche that the Meizler could die? What do you think?
