  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MEET FELIX....

so...where does one get a full grown lion from for camera tests? is felix the family pet at Red Studios?

These are my attempts.
The first is a natural, 'objective' look.
The following two are with the blacks crushed slightly,
2 is actually well oversaturated, but it shows that you can push saturation to the max and you still don't get any strange looking stuff.
3 is with the saturation toned down a bit. I like this one best.

4 is to show what a 1080 crop of the 3k Scarlet image could look like. Plenty of room to zoom in! I like this a lot, bye bye steadicam ;-)

Also, did anyone notice that there is NO roling shutter distortion going on even though the lions head is moving fast right to left. Not that I expected to, but anyone who was worried should be at ease now.

Scarlet will change the world as we know it. Or rather, change the world as we shoot it. :-)

Wasn't that already official. Didn't Ted say something about a big upcoming action? I was thinking along the lines of the Dark Knight Rises, Superman: Man og Steel, James Bond 23, Super8, The Avengers, Avatar sequel, Star Trek sequel, The Dark Tower, The Lost Symbol or/and Uncharted...
 
Hasn't Super 8 been shooting for a little while now? Plus JJ Abrams confirmed that it's definitely 2D. Not that this prohibits the use of the Epic, it's just that he's always pushed for film and this is a joint project with Spielberg who's also a staunch defender of the format.

Of course, we know that JJ loved the Red 1 MX as that's what he settled on for Undercovers but i think he'll direct motion pictures on film for a while yet.

finally somebody got what i was asking for a few months back about seeing some images!! its less painful the wait! if we in turn can see some images along the process!! Hint Hint jannard!! A bone here and there can take a big crowd of people a long way!!
 
I Say a weekly post of new Images or footage would do everybody alot of good!! hey i can be reposible for it if red wouldnt mind giving me a job! ill take minimum salary and a fix 2/3 scarlet and ill make it happen!! and everybody will be happy like a Mofoker!!

Had not thought of this for a 1080p delivery!

...and I even did my university engineering thesis on camera stabilization methods! lol

Still have to be careful to eliminate motion blur... but that could make for a cool artistic effect when combined with a rock-steady frame.

I think he's always felt there are more enertaining roles under the big top... or perhaps the Clown Car just looked like a can of tasty sardines to those eyes.
