  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Media keeps going offline on Graid, will not auto link, or auto conform, relink break

Hey, I have a weird issue I am trying to help my friend with. He is using a Graid, and it spins down once in a while in order to "rest" or something. He believes during a rest it messed up his project. Here are the symptoms:

He keeps having to mount to the drive in Resolve all the time, it does not remember it as the drive. It won't auto relink, it won't force conform, he can relink it one at a time but it keeps unlinking all the time and its dozens of clips so its a pain for him. He is not sure what the issue is and is on Resolve 11.1. Please advise if anyone can since I can't get on with tech support until next week? Thanks!

PS as a work around he tried kicking out a EDL and making a new project but when he loads the EDL and goes to conform it, every clip is linking to one clip of media, instead of what it all should be linking to. I have never encountered these issues before myself, so not sure how to fix it or replicate it

No problems here with a G-Raid via Thunderbolt. I would either try a different drive or export the project and then reimport it as a new project. At the worst, you could try rebuilding the project and just bring in the clips and reconform it, then reconnect all the color-corrections via ColorTrace. Make sure this drive is set up in the config window as a Scratch disc (under Media Storage).

I would also contact G-Technology customer support and see if they can help:

It's possible that the drive is simply going bad, and in that event I'd back it up immediately, overnight it to the company, and let them swap it out or fix it, then do a restore when the drive comes back.

Thanks, appreciate it and sent your message to my buddy! Hoping he can get this all sorted out, we have three copies of the raw footage but he's trying to finish up the grade on an indie he did last year for the colorist to match I'm guessing, so this issue is vexing him atm...

I have to admit, Brian, I've encountered far more problems dealing with bad conforms, problematic XMLs, and dodgy editing than I ever have with color. Resolve has come a long way in this regard, but it helps to have editors who are hip and learning how to keep their lists clean and provide easy-to-follow workflow paths. I deal with far too many small films that have no post supervisor, and it's clear why good post sups are worth their weight in gold.
