  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Media Cards??

Exascend 2TB cards are now shipping. They claim .8GB/sec sustained, so should work.

I will be avoiding this brand, after Canon added VPG 400 support (Video Performance
Guarantee profile) to the R5 with 1.4 firmware, Exascend cards stopped working completely, freezing the camera. Eaxascend would not take it back for a firmware upgrade, they said to take it to where it was purchased, yeah amazon is going to get right on firmware upgrades. ridiculous.

Does anyone have any experience with these cards on Raptor? Unfortunate they didn’t provide you with proper customer service but the capacity and price makes this quite appealing.

The best I can say, specifically after some back and forth on social media with Jarred and others is just wait for approved cards. There's so much going on behind the scenes in regards to testing, getting card firmware updated, and likely other insanity that it's somewhat stupid to go outside of anything that hasn't been approved/recommended just yet.

Has there been any more said about the possibility of using the USB-C interface to connect m.2 SSDs? I believe it was mentioned in the launch live stream but I may have been mistaken.

WORD!

Probably a hive of activity right now swatting bugs and getting functions online.

Zitay Cfe to NVME with 2TB Samsung 970 Plus or 980 Pro - all modes tested ok - 8k/120 with pre-record tested the most, 39mins of 8k/120. Obviously clunky, but inexpensive and can offload at 7GB/sec! (980) Most other SSDs will not work due to exhausting cache and not be able to sustain writes, WD SN850 would be another to test. I'm going to ask Zitay if they would be open to making one raptor specific, 90 degree/shorter length so it could just mount on the side.

Any tips for getting the Zitay to format? I'm using a Samsung 980 Pro 1tb and the camera mounts it but format fails every time.

I've never seen it not be able to format the ssd. If you put the Zitay with the 980 in a CFe reader connected to a pc is it readable?

Hi everybody any news or real life exsperiance about the Angelbird AV Pro CFexpress XT 660 GB cards in combination with V-Raptor!?
They should be the same like the original RED Cards.... right !?

Thanks

Tobi

I totally agree with this advice and yet I got desperate and ignored it :-) I bought some Prograde Cobalt cards and they work perfect. Maybe something unforeseen will happen and they will suddenly stop working, only time will tell.

Interesting and thanks for pointing this out......

This is very interesting. As when you go to the Angelbird site they state at the bottom of their CFexpress page that they are not compatible with Raptor.
Im not very in the machine tech savvy but the way that Angelbird talk about sustained read and write speed it almost sounds like the camera end needs to keep the data speed flowing to the card is almost as important as the card being able to handle the incoming speed. Just thinking out loud and any please educate me. Is it necessary to have consistent out put from say a camera to a card and obviously the card needs to be able to handle that speed.
Not sure if Im making my self clear but my thought is that maybe the camera needs to sort of buffer and keep data feeding to the card at a more consistent speed . Not supper faster than the card can handle and then to 0 and back to supper fast... Just wondering...

I can confirm that these indeed do not work. Raptor does not recognize.

Delkin Green 2TB and 256GB - too slow - work up to 8k 17:9 28fps MQ 4ch audio with pre-record. - the data rate for that is .323GB/sec

Delkin BLACK 512GB card works for all modes including 8k 17:9 120fps 4ch audio with pre-record, nice 48hr replacement warranty.

as of beta 1.1 the max data rate is aprox 745 MB/sec.
8k 17:9 120fps LQ = .744 GB/sec , 8k 17:9 103fps MQ = .744 GB/sec, 8k 17:9 64fps HQ = .743 GB/sec

Angelbird pro, lexar gold, sony tough, NKI, Sandisk extreme pro, prograde gold all have too slow sustained writes.

Besides the Delkin Black 512gb and the Prograde Cobalt 650 / aneglbird xt 660, the other cards that should work is the Wise CFX-B640P.

Next up, testing m2. 2230 nvme to CFe - aka XBox-X storage - KIOXIA /WD SN530 1TB, should work if they don't thermal throttle.

Thank you for this.Even RED didnt update their page on this.

I bought two of these: ProGrade Digital 650GB CFexpress 2.0 Type B Cobalt. They work. I don't have any scientific results, but they held up at 8K 120fps. If anyone has specific tests they want me to do just let me know.

What's the runtime on 8K 120fps? LQ HQ MQ..I cant find this kinda data anywhere on Red.com and Reduser.

Run time with the ProGrade 650GB card:
- 8K, 16:9 at 120fps is 12 min. It only records LQ and this frame rate.
- 8K, 16:9 at 23.98 is 0:25 HQ, 0:37 MQ, 0:59 LQ
- 6K, 16:9 at 23.98 is 0:46 HQ, 1:05 MQ, 1:45 LQ

Can triple confirm the Zitay CFE to m.2 NVME works like a charm. The cable sticks out and the card door obviously can't close, but it's a really handy trick for super long interviews. Would be funny shooting a full 8TB SSD worth of interview footage at 8K HQ and then just handing the unhoused m.2 to the client like "good luck!" Haha

Hi Ryan ,
My Raptor can't format Samsung 980 pro ( 2 TB ) in Zitay CFE to m.2 NVME adapter.
Format Failure - message - and Raptor stuck in formatting mode with flashing Amber LED
But with Samsung 950 pro ( 256 Gb ) work perfectly ....
What is issue ?

UPDATE

Need update firmware on Samsung 980PRO via Samsung Magician .

Now all works perfectly

I bought two Wise CFexpress Type B PRO 640G. They work, not any issue to report, tested at 8K 120p with pre-recording as well. No issue at all. It'll be great backup cards next to the new EXASCEND/ARCHON CFEXPRESS 1TB.
