  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

May Update... The month of Raven

Yes, the BS reps will say anything. I've had more reps than I care to count and each made many misrepresentations. I was always excited to see an email from a new rep - until I realized they too were full of it. I've come to the conclusion that it's a top down problem.

Ok, second post insulting our reps from you. But a new twist by pointing your finger at Jarred and I. We are big boys, go ahead and point it at us. Not on the guys on the front lines who are working their tails off and relaying the information they have a the time.

I see you are in LA. I will be at RSH tomorrow, Adam, if you would like to vent to me directly.

I love the unique level of communication, but man, I'm a first-time Red customer (long-time renter) and this whole process has been a little disappointing. I pre-ordered Raven in November, thinking they'd ship in February or March (as the marketing materials kinda lead me to believe). Added a side handle, assuming it'd ship "in the fall". I switched to Scarlet-W last week for the bigger sensor and interchangeable bits, but in small part because I thought it'd ship in time for work in late May, June, etc.

I get it now: preorder, but make no assumptions or plans around ship date, even conservatively – no accurate estimates available. I'll happily keep at it for the weeks and months ahead with my workhorse Canons, but I'm disappointed to not have a Red in the arsenal for upcoming projects.

In the end, I know they'll ship a kick-a$$ camera that is worth the wait and an hugely valuable tool to own – I wish their process was a little more compatible with the month-to-month hustle of running a small studio like mine though.

I know it's probably difficult to say but should a mid-March Raven order expect a delivery after July/August? I have a film shoot I'm trying to get talent scheduled for. Thanks.

Hello Brent and Jarred
Will there be any loaner Epics in Australia?
I ordered a Scarlet Dragon to Scarlet-W package in mid Feb but it looks like the camera is a while off with this latest update. I'd really like to minimise my rental bill if its possible.
I'm in Melbourne

Regards
Rick

I don't get it. This has always been RED's MO. They take a while to deliver cameras. I've only ever dreamed of owning one, so I never paid much attention, but even being in the industry I knew not to expect a Raven in my hands in February or March. And that's not a slight to RED. They are doing a difficult thing as a small company competing against the likes of Canon and Sony. They do what they can and they're up front about it. If you expected cameras in hand by release dates and you planned shoots and things around it (some people are STILL asking about that somehow) you didn't do your due diligence. It's not like RED hides this fact. They make great cameras, they serve their customers and LISTEN to them, and that stuff takes time and effort. I don't see how you can get to a point where you need and can afford a camera that costs as much as a car, but you spend two minutes on taking such critical points into consideration. It's business 101. Hell, look at how long it's taken to get Weapon out in the wild. It's ongoing right in front of you. You can't fault RED for something that is so easy to find out if you're on this very site.

/rant Sorry. I really just don't get it. I've wanted a RED since their inception. And I've taken an odd path that led be to finally be able to afford a Raven (I didn't need Scarlet features). Anyway, it's a big purchase and I just can't imagine people taking it so lightly as to somehow miss that RED doesn't have a huge stock of cameras right out of the gate—ever. And neither do most companies for that matter (with any electronic gadgets even).

A lot of truth in that post. I think the fact that the people that were already allocated will still get there cameras soon will calm down some of the consternation. Again if we are talking fairness what RED is doing is right and if some of you guys look beyond yourselves you would see that.

What about a month earlier? Say 1/15? :)

Guys, I could quit my day job and only post on REDUSER looking up everyone’s order date and trying to guesstimate a delivery timeline. As you can see from the original post in this thread - and subsequent ones, these things are always in flux to a certain extent.

All I can say is new RAVEN or SCARLET-W orders placed right now, we expect to deliver in Fall. As with any piece of critical equipment, don’t plan around it until it is in your hands.

Remember, the intent of this loaner program is to take care of those who were on the (relative) cusp of delivery. So, think very early SCARLET-W (first few days of orders, began taking orders Dec 10) or new WEAPON orders. An order for SCARLET-W in mid-Feb really is not in scope here.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the consistent updates. Way back in March 2016 Red told me over the phone it would be best to go through Abel-Cine to order my Raven Package. As much as I can't wait to receive it i know that when it arrives it will be complete and not rushed, and for that i really appreciate it. I wonder where in I end up in line if I ordered through a place like Abel-cine, NY. Anyways good luck to all future DSCM2 owners, looking forward to seeing everybody's pics and future projects!

Best,

Brent/Jarred,
Are dealers time stamped and allocated just like individuals who ordered directly from Red? Are they allocated before or after individual orders? I ordered through Innocinema mid-February.
Thanks for your transparency!

Hey John, shoot me an email at Bbyrne (at) abelcine (dot) com
I'll look into our system and see if I can help shed some light on fulfillment through Abel.

The updates are great! I bought mine through a dealer here in Vancouver and the delay hasn't been all bad, if the Raven had shipped end of march the Canadian dollar would have still been in the dumps and cost me more. Thanks again to the RED team for running through the orders as fast as they can.

A couple of weeks before NAB, we stated we would have all people - at that point in time - who had placed an order for RAVEN before the Dec 10 SCARLET-W announce date and had switch to SCARLET-W, we would allocate by NAB. We did that. We also said if you were switching from RAVEN to SCARLET-W AFTER that point in time, it would be after NAB. I also stated in many areas that “keeping your timestamp from RAVEN to SCARLET-W” was a manual process and if you felt you had a RAVEN order in before Dec 10 and switched to SCARLET-W before that point in time (3/25/16), contact your rep.

Thanks for the head's up ! This transparency is really valuable even if it means an emotional roller coaster on our side!

I still don't understand why I haven't been allocated. My Raven order is from the 25th September and switched to Scarlet-W early. I didn't want to bother my rep with this but asked twice and he told me I should be allocated soon. Now it looks like soon is quite far away :D.

@Brent any more informations you could give me ?

Thanks again for your harder than hard work !

Adam, having a negative experience and providing that feedback is one thing. That is called constructive criticism. But if you go back and read your posts, it was not constructive - it was saying our reps are "full of it", people are "seemingly" helpful, and that the issue is a top-down one. I may not be at the very top, but I am someone who was willing to listen if it was beneficial to you and to RED.

You are saying the previous poster had a "headache" from his rep, which I pointed out was simply the rep giving the information accurately that they had at that time. Don't blame the rep if things changed after the fact, which that poster was doing. And you are citing this as evidence to condemn RED customer service.

I am happy to look at every rep you have been assigned, sure. But, if you are sold "one is worse than the next" and that looking at the past to help solve the future is something you don't have time for, I cannot help you. If you think you can get better technology blended with better customer service from another company, I wish you the best of luck. I am not saying that tongue in cheek or in a snarky way, I am just saying every person has the right to their opinion and their choices, and it sounds like yours is made. Me trying to sort it with you would be a waste of your time and mine.

I stand behind our customer service as industry-leading. My advice is to you, and anyone, is don't settle. If you think you are "settling" with RED, don't. But, just remember, RED lit the 4K fuse 10 years ago. The very option you are looking at other than RED probably would not be an option for you right now without RED's spark. Love us, hate us, fine. But at least have some respect for us...

Brent, is it typical to expect a couple days between replies from our reps? Had a Raven allocated early last week and it's taken quite awhile just to get a final tally so the credit card can be put through. It's fine though if they're just swamped over there. I'm anxious to get my little baby Red but I've got another here so I'm set.

hey Brent, why don't you 'look in to it" for me too. I had a raven time stamp from the 24th at around 10am. And please don't tell me to switch back brother. Again this real and true business ethics at work here. Selling me an upgraded timeline and camera and then yanking it (all in a 7 day period) with no clear delivery is BS, plain and simple.

Man, what's with all the hate on here guys? I was one of the first Red Raven deposits, within 5 minutes of the page going live. I ordered a package; there were some delays; Scarlet-W went out ahead of me... still no hate. It's all good! It's business, Red works hard to take care of us. Drop the entitled bullshit. At the very least cut it with the claims of ethical violation. That's true and utter crap. These guys (Brent, Jarred and the rest) work their asses off to bring us amazing stuff every year. It's a complicated business and they're awesome about showing us behind the scenes, a real privilege. That does not make them ethical violators. Have some respect.

And by the way, this is not new. I've been with Red 10 years and this is just how it's done. It's how they keep pushing the industry and the tech in ways nobody else will. If you want secretive delays with no info then a bait & switch, then I hear Blackmagic will sell you a global shutter 4.6K Ursa Mini at NAB 2015... eh? Chill. Seriously.

Hey guys, there isn't any point in moaning and complaining to be honest because what is happening is happening whether you like it or not. May will be just for Ravens. Like me and everyone else we are a little down hearted we have to wait even longer for our scarlet w's. This is my first time buying from red, after lots of saving and hard work. At the end of the day you will get your camera and it will have been worth your wait in gold. When releasing cameras what have the specs and quality and DR, Raven and scarlet have you know and would expect a lot of people to buy in. I'm sure jarred, Brent and everyone else is working to get This issue sorted. The more you moan and complain the worse it is going to get for you. Shoot the cameras you have and forget about it for a month or so. You could even take advantage of the epic dragon camera they have offered to lend you instead while you wait. Or you could always get your deposit back and go and buy a Sony or an arri or even a kinemax camera instead of you cannot wait....
