May Update... The month of Raven

I don't understand this stance. RED has been treating people who ordered Scarlet-W directly from them worse then switchers and those who ordered from dealers.

Lesson learned, only order from Dealers in the future since they apparently got priority over individual orders.

I hear what you're saying, but 'haphazardly' might be a bit of a strong word. When the rep says shipping in April, or May, and you plan a shoot for June to be safe, and then it gets delayed to July or August, that still sucks. I think you'd have to be pretty nonchalant about the camera to at least not LOOSLY plan shoots around an expected delivery date. I have a backup camera but it doesn't do what the Scarlet-W can do, and if it did, I wouldn't be buying a Scarlet-W.

The loaner offer is definitely a great gesture. I certainly wouldn't qualify for any loaner at this point, though, as I've been turning down certain work (travel and such) since my wife could be having our first baby any day now. At this point I was mostly hoping for a chance to get the camera, get accessories/configuration figured out, balance and figure out my gimbal setup, test my motion control rig with it, and of course shoot some 5K baby test footage, haha!

And I don't know if I'd say "Scarlets are everywhere already". Not a single person that ordered a Scarlet-W directly from RED, without being a RAVEN preorder that switched over, has received their camera or package. At least as far as we've seen. That's what I meant by "more good news for the RAVEN crowd." Because if they aren't fulfilling any Dec10+ Scaret-W orders, then quite literally every order they have fulfilled (and will be fulfilling this month going forward) are orders that are currently or were previously RAVEN orders.

At least we are all hear for each other in terms of moral support. It is good to remember that. The way the cards have been dealt, we all seem to be fracturing into separate factions: dedicated Raven orders....Raven switchers....pure Scarlet-W orders....Dragon upgraders...I know this was not REDS attention but this situation just pits everyone against each other. We are all customers who made sacrifices to get the camera that worked for them at the moment they dropped the deposit and we are all equally passionate about our projects.

Ok, folks, let me try to answer/clarify a few things…

EPIC DRAGON loaners. These will be first come, first serve - and we do have a limited supply.

If you order a WEAPON in May, odds are you won’t get it until very late May or early June. In that case, please let your rep know once placing your order and they will check on availability of an EPIC DRAGON loaner package. And, don’t be “that guy” who places a WEAPON order, uses an EPIC DRAGON for a while on the house, then cancels their WEAPON order when we are ready to ship it, k?

A couple of weeks before NAB, we stated we would have all people - at that point in time - who had placed an order for RAVEN before the Dec 10 SCARLET-W announce date and had switch to SCARLET-W, we would allocate by NAB. We did that. We also said if you were switching from RAVEN to SCARLET-W AFTER that point in time, it would be after NAB. I also stated in many areas that “keeping your timestamp from RAVEN to SCARLET-W” was a manual process and if you felt you had a RAVEN order in before Dec 10 and switched to SCARLET-W before that point in time (3/25/16), contact your rep.

Ok, if you are in that later “manual process” boat, contact your rep regarding EPIC DRAGON availability. Eladio, I am talking to you… We are not trying to screw anyone who switched from RAVEN to SCARLET-W after that late March post, so we are making what loaners we can available in this case as well.

If you were allocated a SCARLET-W and never took delivery so we moved onto the next guy, but you are now ready to take delivery, same thing - contact your rep regarding EPIC.

If you have a notice to upgrade from SCARLET or EPIC DRAGON to WEAPON and have not sent in your camera yet…don’t. Keep shooting on that camera until we re-open upgrade lines (which are converted to RAVEN as we speak) in June.

Guys who ordered SCARLET-W outright when we started taking orders, I know this sucks ass. If you ordered that first day (timestamp Dec 10 PT), contact your rep on a loaner if you need it for a shoot. Only if you need it for a shoot. Please. This is not a “test drive” situation….

Please be patient with your reps and response times. As you can imagine, this thread has folks calling/PMing/emailing/smokesignalling us like a tidal wave. We will do our best to accommodate to the best of our abilities. But we go in eyes wide open that we will never, ever, NEVER please everyone all the time : )

First good news? We started shipping when we said we would. We began shipping in March. If you took that to mean that RAVEN would be completely out of backorder in March, that is just plain wrong.

Thanks for the update! We ordered a Raven in February knowing that it could be months before we had the camera in hand. If we get our camera during Raven May, that's great! If not, we will then most likely not get the camera until after Scarlet-W June (if there will be such a thing). Whatever the case, our business continues to move forward with the camera equipment we now have in our possession. Do we want our Raven as soon as possible? Yes, absolutely! But we all need to understand that RED just took a HUGE bite out of the DSLR market with the introduction of the Raven and the demand has been overwhelming! Shame on the Marketing Department by the way for not projecting Raven demand correctly! ;-) Anyway, appreciate the updates/transparency by the RED team!

um, i was actually defending jarreds update. i didnt say raven wasnt mentioned in previous updates, i said barely, which is true, scarlet-w have been the majority of the discussion in the prior updates, hence why this is a great update from raven order point of views, but sorry for the confusion. josh's statement was already cleared up, he meant more good news for raven pre-orders, which i do understand.

This almost sounds like people who switched to Scarlet-W after NAB were still given priority over outright Scarlet-W orders. Was that the case?

As one of the guys who ordered the Scarlet-W outright: PLEASE tell me you're not still doing RAVEN-to-Scarlet honoring of timestamps. As in, someone who has an October RAVEN order decides today "ah, I'll upgrade to Scarlet-W" and gets bumped to the front of the Scarlet-W queue. That would mean even a slow trickle of switchers constantly pushing us back in the queue.

I figured getting my order placed in the first two hours was a sure-fire way to get one right away. I was excited to switch over to RED from Sony and now this has just been months of being bummed out. Thousands of dollars in accessories just sitting on my desk, waiting for a camera...
