I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but it seems like a former employee of RED now works at Maxx Digital, and pulled my email to try and sell me things.

I'm pretty annoyed by this move, and want to know if anyone else found this bothersome? I get that they want to retain contacts and continuing offering sales services, but find it a bit unprofessional.

The email I received reads:

Hello!

I wanted to introduce myself to you, and offer my support for the coming new year-

I have spent the past 8 years on staff in Production Support at RED Digital Cinema. I was familiar with your team through your contribution to Reduser, which I have basically monitored 24/7:)

I wanted to let you know that I am leaving my position at RED, but not the RED family- as I will be partnering with Maxx Digital to help clients as a gear supplier, and to provide technical support directly to our clients.

Feel free to add me as a professional contact- I may be your best technical resource outside of the RED team itself for further information on the MONSTRO program, IPP2, and various RED camera and workflow questions. I am also happy to discuss your possible camera upgrade paths, additional storage and post options, etc.

Call or text any time- I would love to hear from you!

Have a great new year

I'm bothered that two of my emails were signed up for this guy's mailing list, especially since I never gave the authorization to do so - I don't think RED would pass along users' emails, either?

Um yeah I received a similar email Dec 1. Needless to say it was annoying as I hate dealing with email as it is and have no recollection of having contact with this person in the past as it stands.

Exactly - I'd like to know that current RED employees won't be using our data and contacting us/signing us up for mailing lists whenever they change jobs.

As the writer of the original email, I can assure you that offering my assistance to the Red community after serving them for nearly a decade is as professional as I have to offer.

I do wonder who you would advise that we market RED WEAPON upgrades to, if not the Red community? I emailed you because you sent a direct response to one of the MONSTRO threads, and your studio and email are linked directly to your post. Is that somehow unreasonable?

For the rest of you, It has been an absolute pleasure to serve this community and watch our tiny company grow from a garage to a world changing juggernaut. The only reason I am leaving is that the best part of the work from here on out is in your hands. I am excited to see what our disfunctional Red family does with what Jim has given us, and would far rather support that part of the community at this point in my career. Have a great 2018.

Hey Stephen,

The generic email address linked on my site is there, and you did email it, yes.

However, I'd like to point out:

The second email you sent was to an entirely different email address, one that RED has and isn't listed on my site or on my reduser account.

You signed me up to your mailing list with that second email, which is something I never requested or authorized, so had to unsubscribe... :glare:

I've never once had direct contact with you, so you're a complete stranger emailing me telling me that you used to work for RED.

My posts on the MONSTRO thread
were about how I'm excited about the sensor and interested in what Jarred has to say about us MG owners upgrading, but that the cost is pretty far out of reach as it stand; i.e., I'm not your target demographic because my camera isn't eligible, I'm waiting on Jarred's potential upgrade path offering, and, in all honesty, I'd prefer dealing directly with the company that makes my camera for all things camera-related.

At the end of it all, I'm sure you had the best intentions, but I just don't know who you are, and I'm not keen on dealing with someone that's not my RED rep. I hope you understand.

Did anybody catch that the guy called us dysfunctional? That is maybe not the best way to sell a camera.

actually, since you asked...you should take the time to read the rules for email marketing. Not only is it unethical, its likely illegal and most email marketing companies dont allow you to send unauthorized emails. At the very least take the time to read the policies of your email marketing company, they are all very similar to this:

https://www.campaignmonitor.com/resources/guides/understanding-emails-laws-regulations/

I would like to also add that I was blitzed with your emails on all of my accounts...its highly unlikely, if not impossible that you found my emails by searching forums...which brings up the question of where did you get my addresses from?

Stephen, I have to weigh in on this as well. Whatever best intentions you had, I was really surprised that my wife got an email from you. She has not bought anything from RED or been directly involved with my business, so how you got that email address I suppose has to do with IP phishing of some sort. I know sales is a tough business and I don't want to be insensitive to people who need to do whatever they need to do to make a living, but that caught me by surprise and at the moment has left a bad taste in my mouth. I've known Ron for a while, going back to early RED days, so this is the first time I've felt a bit negative towards the company.

I got an email from someone else at MaxxDigital now even after "unsubscribing" from a list I didn't sign up for... what is going on?

Perhaps, but also accurate! ;-)

As this thread is perhaps demonstrating... :-P

Yes I agree it is accurate, as evidenced from some Vintage Shootwear:

Gonna go ahead and blacklist MaxxDigital.

I feel disrespected. I haven't received an email.

I got an email from Stephen as well, wasn't particularly taken back by it, but also felt a bit strange with his approach(I replied and said "Good luck")- which prompted him into signing me up into their email list.. Not the worst thing, I've ever been signed into. Now Clayton Voechting is emailing me to upgrade my Weapon.. Which feels a little strange. Will probably stick with my Red Rep unless they can offer me a better value/deal that is warranted just like RED.

I’m going to mention that I received one of the emails reaching out from MaxxDigital and I didn’t take much from it or read to much in to it other than they were reaching out knowing that I had commented on the new sensor and had taken delivery as all that’s public knowledge here on RU. I get that folks are a little bent out of shape about how they were contacted or how their info was used to contact them but I feel that MaxxDigital will probably not contact any one on RU again in the same way. And it’s not really any different than half a dozen other companies that contact me weekly. If I’m not interested I usually just unsubscribe.
We all get multiple contacts from all kinds of emails every day and I doubt that we all do so much about them or right back to the company other than to Unsubscribe.
Ethically they should have had a different approach. So maybe we can create some guidelines here on RU that will prevent this from happening again. It’s pretty strong language to Black List for a basic bad judgement choices. I would think your choice to not buy their products would be choice enough. I for one am interested in different choices of products like theirs.
