  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Max compression at 6K full? at 5.5K?

Wondering what the compression rates will be. I would assume they will be higher as 6K=more data, but I could be wrong (and I hope I am).

The current information and what I've seen in use is published in the Red DSMC Operation Guide, which can be found on the downloads page.

@24fps Max REDCODE

6K Full - 5:1
6K 2:1 - 5:1
6K WS - 4:1
6K HD - 4:1
5.5K - 4:1

However, this doesn't tell "the whole story" as Dragon's REDCODE compression tends to retain more information due to the lower noise floor allowing for more efficient, cleaner, and higher detail at higher compression ratios.

I am shooting my Dragons at 5.5K at 6:1 since I feel the new compression ratios are great.... I shot tests at 100FPS at 17:1 compression and screened it at 4K on a huge screen and had no issues

Do you think they changed the algorithms? I did notice that megabyte for megabyte, Red One seemed a little more efficient for how much it was compressing than Epic at the same (relatively high) ratios that the One shot at (and the One still mostly looked OK).
